I got my sammy 50' dlp about 2 weeks ago & I'm looking to upgrade my dvd player. I tried the sammy hd931 dvd players with the dvi connection but didn't see much improvement over my toshiba. Need some suggestions on other dvd players to try. I have about $500 to spend on the players. Should I just wait for some of the new 2004 models? Thanks for any suggestions.

Check out the MARCH/APRIL issue of THE PERFECT VISION. It does rate many DVD players, and I saw one, it is V, Inc. Bravo D-! that was listed at only $199 that has a DVI out put. The review says, "If you have a display that will work with this player's DVI output (particularly a DLP set), odds are that you'll end up with a knockout image quality for just $199."

Nebraska Furniture Mart has the Denon 2200 for $521.

    No affil.

I've read about a lot of complaints about the Bravo units over at the AVS forum.

I know this doesnt have much to do with your dvd player question, but when did you get your Samsung DLP? If you got it within 30 days and are still within the refundable period, I'd hold out for the new DLPs coming out later this year (August). There's a DLP line by Samsung called the "Pedestal", that got alot of attention for designs in the CES show and it has the specs to back it up also. It's suppose to have a major improvement on the black levels, 7 segment color wheel, and a color contrast of 5000:1. I was almost certain on a the Pioneer Elite plasma til I saw a picture of this "Pedestal". I'm telling you man, the design of this thing is out of this world. I'm definitly waiting for this baby to come out, before I make up my decision on which display and which DVD player to upgrade to.

The Samsung HD931 DVD player, $299, is rated to have an outstanding DVI output signal. My magazine says, "Image quality was simply outstanding- very detailed, with a palpable three-dimensional aspect to images and color depth that was awesome." The Samsung's deinterlacing chip is the Faroudja, used exclusively on this model for the DVI output.

i hooked up a tosh progressive scan to a samsung dlp and the hd-931 with the dvi at the same time with the same movie running on a delay and the upconverted signal was significantly brighter, sharper, and had better colors. Not that anything was wrong with the progressive tosh, but the 931 does make a difference in picture and now that the new models come with the dvi cable it's a pretty good value too.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm going to wait for the new samsung 941 which also plays sacd. I've read some good things about the new samsung 941 over at avsforum.com It should be out late march or april, priced around $350. Hopefully it will have dvi cable included also. The PQ of the dlp seems to have gotten better with only minor adjustment, it has about 170 hours on the lamp. I'm going to use DVE calibration disc this weekend & live with the toshiba dvd player until the new models come out. Thanks again for you replies.
