or just forget it and go all digital.
I'm using any of:
an old old Pioneer multi disc CD player for the vintage system
NAD CD player from goodwill
or an old OPPO to play SACD and HDCDs (CDs sound good as well)
and am using an external DAC or switching around to see what sounds best.
I'm looking to spent $300.00 or so but will hold out if it makes sense to do so.
Should I just throw the money+ at a nice digital media center?
Any thoughts on the price point/ law of diminishing returns is these days?

  • Thanks DSkip. It was a bit silly of a question I suppose.
I can't talk myself in to spending $1,100 on a player but
I have a chance to get a "nice" one that I would use for a
transport for three bills. I just need a push to go where
everyone else has been for 4-5 years. :)

I held off on streaming mainly because my previous computer made it basically impossible to enjoy. Now that I'm finally there I'm sick that I waited so long. Ripping all of your CD's is a b-itch, but will be worth the time and effort. So nice to open up the app on my iPad and pick a song...maybe listen to the whole song, maybe not...pick another song and within seconds it's playing. The convenience is greater than I ever imagined. I can have different songs playing on my 3 systems at the same time, or I can sync them and play the same thing. You can't imagine how nice it is until you do it. I'm as happy as can be and I'm just scratching the surface on how nice it can be. I haven't even done any playlists, etc.

Read Skip's thread: http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/165337/a-move-to-streaming-my-three-week-project#latest and ask questions. As he mentions, it doesn't have to be expensive to work well and sound great.
