anyone going to see the 50th Grateful Dead anniversary

I saw this on the early morning stock program Squawk Box. The promoter was saying there will be 3 shows at Soldier Field July 2-4. This was were Jerry played his last show and I guess it's in the middle of the country so that was the reasoning behind Soldier Field. Trey from Phish is the lead guitarist and Bruce Hornsby on piano. Even if I could afford it I would not go , I tried in 2009 when they were just called The Dead w/ Warren Haynes on lead and it was terrible. Further prices were off the charts so I never bothered to see them. I did see the true GD about 28 times Wall of Sound and all and a load of Jerry Band shows and when they were good they were the the best at what they did but if you caught them on an off night they were f#%king horrible. There was no in between w/ them.

There's a pretty funny Youtube video, one of those with Hitler, commenting on the Soldier Field shows. Pretty funny and pretty much nails it. Most of my Deadhead buddies aren't interested.

Not a Deadhead here, but I will say that I really enjoyed Anastasio, Lesh, and Weir playing with Further at Lockn MF. They played Workingman's Dead through and a good selection of "hits". Far exceeded my expectations. And much much better than what I've seen of Bob Weir & RatDog where there doesn't seem to be much lively interaction between players, just Bob's snooze-jam. Never got my attention enough to take me to another place; but might have just been off nights.

There is no Grateful Dead anymore.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

This is the one I referenced above:

  • I’ll go if they figure out how to bring Jerry back. I also saw them as The Dead with Warren Haynes and it completely sucked. They sounded more Molly Hatchet than the Grateful Dead, instead of a wall a sound it was more like a wall of ****. Hey, what movie was the Hitler clip taken from? Now that’s something I’d like to see.
  • They change there name from THE GRATEFUL DEAD to WERE DEAD. Sorry, but the dead are so dead when there dead.
    Joey Ward
  • While it's very true that Pig Pen, Keith, Brent, Vince, and Jerry are really dead when they were on like I said they were the best at what they did .Between covers of every song imaginable to there free form jamming and when Jerry was vibrant one of the best going. I also said there's no in between w/ their fans you either liked them or just never got it or happened to see them on a bad night which unfortunately they had a bad average for a professional touring band. I also said I wouldn't go to this w/ the exception of hitting the lottery taking a plane and catching a Cubs game at Wrigley on an off day or night.
