Just Lovely

Quite the day.
I get ladder & shovel to shovel off roof. Up the ladder i go. Shoveling off snow & snow hits ladder & down it goes. Shat i say. I finish shoveling 20 inches off roof & go to edge & look down & say Too High. Thankfully i have cell phone...Idea... I will call fire dept. So i do & it says call 911 in case of emergency. GREAT. I hang up & then i call back & listen to the whole message & at end i press 1 for operator. I tell her the situation & she has the chief call me back. 5 mins later he calls & i tell him & i ask that he doesnt have fire truck come with lights & sirens as i am embarrassed already to say the least.... 20 mins later the Big A$$ ladder truck pulls up. GREAT & im 100ft from the road in the woods. Embarrassed as $hit. They get out & ask how im doing ROLMAO. Im fine. They open the middle of the back of the truck up & slide out a ladder. Wow thought they were gonna use that long ladder. Cool im saved. I told them i was gonna jump but i was afraid i was gonna break something like a hip  they were very nice & said were glad you didnt. I thanked them & really appreciate there service. So i tell my wife & she about pee's herself. Then she just has to tell the daughters. So it was a comical day to say the least......
.
Have you ever done something that made you laugh thinking back ?

I dunno man, you guys in Boston ain't right. One guy is shoveling the Marathon finish line in a blizzard, another is on his roof looking to do a Chevy Chase number with a ladder. You guys up there don't have both oars in the water do ya ? lol

However, I shouldn't talk given my own escapades. Being from Chicago though, "Just lovely" would not be my words to describe such happenings.

Whoa whoa whoa tony! didn't you recently lock yourself out of your house in your pajamas?

I've had a ladder side off the side of a house when i was a painter while painting a dormer. Fortunately, i didn't work alone.

Boston, as long as the FD aren't a bunch of aholes, they won't charge you for the visit. If i have a sheetrocker set off the building fire alarm with dust, it usually costs around $600. Hopefully, that's not the case for you!!!

Once had a window AC unit in a house I was renting that worked great . . . until it didn't. Couldn't work out what was wrong with it, fiddled with all the controls and just couldn't get it to come on. Called the electrician and he came over, looked at it and . . . . . . . . . plugged it in.

Man did I feel dumb !

Don't you hate it when that happens?

    Caution: Ego-centric reply follows :-P

Quite a few years back, I was washing skylights on our house in MA; up on the roof (too steep to stand on, at least for me) with a ladder that (as it turned out) wasn't planted quite stably enough. It kicked, and left me literally clinging to the frame of the skylight to make sure I didn't slide off the roof. Fortunately, it was the one-story part of the house (family room), but, still, I wasn't up for using gravity alone to get back to terra firma.

Of course no one else was home. (EDIT: I guess in my case, the lights were on and no one was home, too!)

I had to just sort of hang there 'til my son got home from an errand.

EDIT^2: The skylights in question may be seen "behind"/above the Tundra in the photo below :- )

Holy cow Hardy, did you need a 6' step ladder to access that skylight? You're son must of looked like.......a full sized human (vs to typical ant comment) when he arrived home. :D

Child's play...I once attempted to change a light bulb on a ceiling fixture, NAKED, from a folding chair, It didn't end well---but I did laugh my butt off while laying on the floor, in pain, NAKED and holding my rib cage. "Steve WTH were you naked?" That's a fair question...I'm a bit of a multi-tasker, and for some reason felt the need to change that bulb on the way to the shower.

I have left up our Christmas lights for this very reason; every day I have had off of work and was able to take them down it has hailed, sleeted, or snowed and I am not about to get up on my roof in that stuff. You didn't have a choice because you needed to get the weight of the snow off, but still a funny story. Last time I had used my phone on the roof was using the compass on my iPhone to properly align my HD antenna - worked like a charm!!!

If she would have been home, there'd be pics. After I showed her my bruised rib cage leg and elbow, and told her what happened she laughed about it too. I can't believe I didn't get hurt worse, tile floors are not forgiving.

I locked myself on a 3 season porch for 3 hours once. In the wrong season. With no shoes or socks...and only sweatpants and shirt.

I rode an elliptical in 30 degree weather for a couple hours to maintain body heat.

Yea, the only thing on the porch were holiday decorations, so I wrapped my feet in the Christmas dish towels so they wouldn't freeze on the foot holders :)
