Mike, I had one of her CDs, the latest one, but I just couldn't get into it. I think you're right about showing her emotions through her singing as it definitely comes through in the music. Maybe I should re-visit that CD. Glad you had a good time.

I would suggest her album "Essence" (produced by Bob Dylan's guitar player Charlie Sexton) if you don't have it already. I've seen her a bunch of times over the years (solo acoustic as well as electric w/ band,) including in a small place above a coffee shop before she got famous. She's always great. Unfortunately, she's not coming near me this time.

I have all her stuff except the newest one. I felt like giving the girl a hug during her show. then she had the good sense to pick up the mood of her songs...just a bit;)
btw, she has great chops on the acoustic. takes big ones to play and sing by yourself, let alone playing intricate acoustic pickings

Yeah, I posted a thread a little while back with a photo of her on stage solo acoustic, and I've had the same thoughts about it taking big cohonas to play her type of music by herself. I'm also a big Gilliam Welch fan, but she has Dave Rawlings with her. Lucinda is in a class of strong women that can play with a band or by herself and either way she carries her emotion like nobody's business. I saw her one time at the House of Blues in New Orleans with Charlie Sexton sitting in with her band for the whole show. She said it was a homecoming because of her Louisiana connections. All I know is that place was absolutely PACKED and she laid EVERYTHING she had on the table. She's an artist in the true sense of the word.

I just ordered tickets on Tuesday for Knopfler when he comes here in late September. The tickets are pricey but I was able to get some good ones and its in a rather small theater so I sort of understand the need to charge more, but I had to swallow hard anyway. I really like Knopfler live. But he'll probably only play one or two Dire Straits songs so if that's you're coming for you may be disappointed. He's supporting his new album coming out next month so likely he'll play a bunch off that and a selection of songs from his prior solo stuff. Last time I saw him live he opened for Dylan and most people wished he had been the headliner as he only played for about 45 minutes. His band is top notch. If you go see him I suggest boning up on his solo albums, it'll be a much more enjoyable experience. And his solo stuff is among my favorites, starting with Golden Heart.
