External Hard Drive Through Blu-Ray

So, in the near future, Im gonna have a 2TB hard drive with about 3k CDs ripped to it, thanks to THJ. I have a Sony S5100 bluray player that has a usb input. The sony can play sacd and flac files. I think there is also an app so i can control the unit with my phone.

I dont want to always have the tv on when listening to music off the hard drive. Is this gonna work? Or am i missing a critical step, or overlooking something?

    My setup is different, but I have to have the TV on to get things started. Once the music is playing I can turn the TV off. I would think your situation would be similar.

    JRiver remote app. That's what I use exclusively in the living room. In my HT I sometimes just use the Oppo remote which means leaving the TV on.

    I downloaded an app where i can control the bluray from my phone, but cant get the menu of the songs from a flash drive to show on the phone. Just on the tv. Ill keep screwin around with it.
