Picked up some Monitor 7's

Picked up some Monitor 7's for restoration. Need to replace the SL2000 tweest and the grill cloth. Rosewood veneer. Wondering about a tweed or beige grill cloth? Think that might look good with Rosewood.

Good luck with the restoration. I think they would look spectacular with Rosewood veneer.

The cabs are rosewood veneer, a little chipped. I cleaned them and oiled them. Will do some more cleaning soon.

How do you clean the cones of dust?

Windex. Real Windex. Not dollarstore/walmart kind

And just the plain old regular Windex. Not any of the special scents or multi surface cleaners. Just good old plain blue Windex.

And don't spray on the cones.
Wet a piece of lint free cloth and wipe away...

  • Monitor 7's are great. Have a pair of early 7c from 1984 with the light oak wood veneer and the fuse on the back and the shorter grill cover with polk logo on the botton of the speaker cabinet. Also has the sl-1000 tweeters that most if not all polkies hate with a mad passion. Call me krazy with a k but with my old pioneer sx-1000td receiver from 1969, the sl-1000 tweeters sound like gold.

Joey, I'll tell you what, those SX1000 receivers are hidden gems. I have the Ta version (the earliest) hooked up to KLH Model Fives right now in my office and it does a superlative job. I will have to try it with my 10's.

I love my Monitor 7's. I've got a pair of the 7As with Peerless tweeters. They're an excellent sounding pair of speakers. I plan to eventually fully upgrade the crossovers and everything, but that's a long-distant future plan for now.

Definitely get those tweeters upgraded to the RD0 tweeter. It'll make a huge difference in the sound of your 7's.
