RTi A3: New to Dual binding posts: Can I hook up wires with one pair posts only, top or bottom

Need to hook up up RTi A3: Can I use one set of posts only, eg, wire the top or bottom row posts only? My receiver is not a bi amp, what is standard way to hook these speaker up with a non bi app? Can't locate easy instructions in manual: http://www.polkaudio.com/Media/POLK/Product Manuals/RTi_A1_A3_A5_A7_A9_MN.pdf

It doesn't matter if you make the connection to the top of bottom posts as long as the jumper plates are in place.

Tip: replace the jumper plates with high quality speaker cable for better sound.

Yup, or get some bi-wire cable.

One thing I would do is to make sure the metal straps are fastened down tightly. I had bought some used rti4's and recently hooked them up and noticed that one seemed like there was no bass at all...turned out the strap was loose...tightened it up and both speakers sounded the same

  • Thanks ALL, So Here is the outcome: When I connected wires to the lower posts with the jumper plates in place and tightly attached. My Onkyo, SR575 Receiver Resets to Standby mode with above Medium Volume and something is tripping an amp protection circuit.

Connecting to the top posts the speakers work at high volume . So something is incomparable with the receiver?

Waiting to hear back from Onkyo next.

Are you sure you don't have a stray wire shorting out the negative and positive binding posts. Shouldn't make any difference hooked to top or bottom with the jumpers in place.

Good question and another reason to never use bare wire.

Are the speakers brand new or used? Same for the receiver?

Definitely check for stray wires...I did that once many many years ago when my dad bought a new denon avr...I had some stray speaker wires on the avr, first day or two it would just go into protect mode when playing semi-loud and by the third day it had blown a fuse and display was out.
