Is their music compressed and lossy?

More than most any other format. That is why they sound spacey and tinny at times. They do run their music at higher rates than their talk stations though. There are times that their talk stations are actually unlistenable.....

I am coming to the end of a free trial and looking for a good reason to renew. I have only listened to it in my car and it sounded ok I guess but I have yet to play a CD or anything else for comparison.
  • I have had XM for over 10 years and use it since I live in a rural area and radio choices are sparse. I also like it to find news and talk shows for keeping my mind alert during those afternoon drives when I tend to get tired. I also prefer having consistent programming when going cross country. Enough reasons why for me, and none of them have anything to do with quality of the music sound. If I want quality music, I stream from my phone or play a CD. I do use XM while driving to find new music and like the display giving me instant info on the artists and enjoy the exclusive studio concerts that they have on occasion.

It's a shame that XM/Sirius streams at such low quality rates, when we all thought that we'd finally have high quality music. The almighty dollar I guess.

Damn I just signed on for 6 mos at 50 bucks. I can probably cancel that i dont really want it that bad but I listen to Howard Stern sometimes and it makes me laugh in a creepy disturbing way.
  • The $25 deal won't include Howard.

I have it on the Wife's Car and mine and my Daughter's car my daughter let her trial run out, they contact me every other week as I own her car wanting us to come back and every other month they turn it back on for her for a while.

Me and the wife pay $89 a year for each vehicle and $40 dollars a year for streaming, great for in the car and around the house for non critical listening, come renewal time I tell them to give me the same price or I will cancel and they can try to get me back with thier annoying specials, they honor it every year, the trick is to pay that fee with a money order so they can't automatically bill your credit card with what they think they should be charging you.

I was sucked into the trial when I bought a new car. I can never go back to commercials...I mean FM radio. If you're on the road quite a bit, for me, it's worth it.

We've had XM for 2 years. The variety is what you are paying for sans commercials. Is it worth it, you bet. I spend roughly 4 hours in my car a day and this was money well spent. NHL, Sportscenter, Classic Vinyl, etc...

    Yup. I'm a believer.
Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!
  • We got a free trial last year with the Passat...no thanks...I prefer the local sports radio, and music is streamed from the phones. Sons a guns call constantly though wanting us to renew.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

My XM expired this December. I have not renewed but everytime I turn on the car they call within ten minutes. They must see the system is activated. S/Q is just not there but convenience with commercial free makes it a plus for some.
