SDA SRS 1.2 replace all or only top two tweeters?

Hi y'all,
I have 2 tweeter issues. The top one on the left cabinet and the 3rd one down on the right cabinet. I can hear them, but they are a lot quieter than the other 6 (used a papertowel roll to check). I don't know if they are blown or just old and tired.
Are the lower 2 only for the dimensioning? If I replace only the top 2 tweeters with RD0194s and use 2 of the still good tweeters (SL2000) as the lower 2 on each cabinet, would that still be bearable? I use my grills, so the different looks wouldn't bother me (too much). Not as much as $200 vs $400 for tweets.

  • Someone else will chime in but if I remember correctly, they are not all supposed to play at the same level. Although your situation does not sound normal as each tweeter should match the tweeters in the other cabinet.

Either way, replace them all to RDO-194 or 198 depending on your model, it will be worth it in the end.

If you don't want to spend the money to upgrade all your tweeters right now, I can sell you a couple of SL2000s that I removed from either my SRS 1.2s or 1Cs when I upgraded them.

If you're interested, PM me to discuss.

The tweeters in your speakers are a progressive point source, none are dimensional. They have a firing order, so to speak with the third down being the main tweeter, so the other three will not sound as loud as they play limited frequencies.

I spoke with Polk when I got the 0194s for my SDA1Cs. Even being a member here, they were $48 with free shipping + tax cost me $208 for 4 of them. I'll have 10 SL2000s to sell soon. The other 2 are damaged. 1 has a small hole in it and the other has a crease in it (domes). I went ahead and put the 4 from my 1cs in the 1.2s It did cost my Dad almost $50 to mail them to my APO address.

Go ahead and spend the money. There may come a day when you can't order them. They are worth it.
