Pioneer VSX 1018 AH/Need Advise

Folks,

I got a chance to get this model, all items are with it, including box.
Listened to it with some Jamo?? S420's speakers, don't remember the sub model.

Didn't sound awful but I don't know a thing about Pioneer/7 channel.
Anyone have experience with the 1018?

Will just be a starter system learning the whole 7 channel thing.

Mostly going for HT.

Comments so very welcomed.

How much? No ice amps but a solid AVR depending on what you are driving and has per outs IIRC...

    Ken,

He wants $75.00 for it but it has a few side sctarches so we'll probably wind up around $60.00+/-.
I saw the pre outs, not sure what speakers I'll use at this point but if you say its dependable thats good enough for me. Unless the price is to high?

    Thanks

I have the 1021 and the Elite vsx94txh. I like the versatility of the pioneers and they are a good bang for the buck (especially at $75!!!). I got very familiar with Pioneer and their interface and have been setting them up for family, friends, etc. I think it would be a fine addition to a nice HT.

  • I have vsx-1016txv I bought in 2007. It is very powerful for a reciever (120 watts x 7). The vsx-1018 was an updated version I believe. Mine only had hdmi pass through so it wouln't decode DTS-HD MA, or Dolby True HD. I believe the 1018 does decode these formats. For that price, it's a great deal, especially with pre outs, so you can add a sepperate more powerful amp later if you want to.
  • Yes, I double checked the specs on Pioneers website and it does decode DTS-HD MA, and Dolby True HD. Only 3 HDMI in's though. Easy to add more with an HDMI switch.

I owned that model for a while and really liked it. Sold it for pittdog I believe. The ONLY 10xx model to decode the hi-def formats and have preouts which is why i bought it. For that reason alone it's a steal at 75 bucks!

I looked up some prices and it seems to be a good deal.
As far as movies/HT go, I'm not into that very much. This is mostly to re-acquaint myself with the whole surround sound movie thing when we do have our "family fun" night.

Its my understanding this receiver has a microphone along with calibrations one must do to set it up, so I will probably have more questions in the next few days..

    THANKS all.

U don't have to use the mic, but yes those are basically standard on all modern receivers, and very easy to implement. You can still go old school and just measure and use an SPL meter, but you won't get any EQ. If you have a blu ray with HDMI, and use the preouts if you speakers require it, you will be pleasantly surprised with SQ for the money you are spending...

If it works its a great deal but be careful. I had a 1019 before I got the sc1227, it works and sound great but after about a half hour after you turn it on it starts buzzing loud from inside the receiver. The sound quality isnt affected but the receiver just buzzes until it cools down. I would try to listen to it for a while and make sure it's ok.
