marantz hd dac1 pro-ject superstar

Anyone ever heard either one? Looks like its decent build quality. The superstar has tube.

I keep wondering if the Marantz DAC is the same DAC in my 8005 SACD player? with a better headphone amp built in also just no SACD player?
If so I really like the DAC in MY 8005 and us it for all my Flac & Hi-rez files & DSD downloads.

I was wondering the same if its basically the dac without a transport.

The Pro-ject looks interesting especially with tube.

Reasonably priced in my opinion for a new unit that also does dsd.

Very nice, and at a down to earth price. One reviewer liked it better than his Teac.

If someone has a preamp without a DAC or headphone amp like my Vincent preamp, then this would be a nice edition to cover several things.

I thought to myself if either one sounds decent, it kind of fits the bill between. Not a 4k $ unit but not a 300$ one either. Its about time some of the nicely built units start coming down in price. The technology isnt "New" anymore so the prices seem to be falling in line.

Some of the all in one units like cocktail look cool also.

Untill I saw audio advisor I didnt even know pro-ject was in the dac buisness. I used to have a tube-box from them. It was a good sounding unit. If I didnt have a geek tube soul waiting to be built, I might have done a 30 day trial on it.

I have anyways liked marantz gear and it also caught my attention especially for 800 new.

Looks nice and clean. The Marantz seems to cover the same territory for a decent price as the Oppo HA-1 headphone amp but lacks some features a high-end product would have. They could probably sell some for more than the $799 price though given their name brand. The Oppo headphone amp at $1199 is more expensive, but also more full featured. If I was in the market, I'd probably go for the Oppo instead for the fully balanced design, and for their track record of following through on providing access to firmware updates over time.
