8 is not enough, right now the 4 on the amp side is enough I have a power strip plugged into the other side just to keep all o my junk plugged in (a crap kenwood turntable, a VCR/DVD recorder and a media server) none of which get used.
The question is: Is the Panamax decent protection, is it lacking in any areas? -

If those things aren't used, why are they plugged in anyway, or even physically there for that matter ?
It's decent enough for surges and spikes, if that's what your asking.HT SYSTEM-

Read this....
http://www.surgex.com/surgetypes.html
Gives a better description of what your standard power conditioner using MOV's does....or doesn't do.
I've hence moved away from MOV devices after a lighting strike 100 feet away took out my cable box and a 500 buck Monster Power conditioner. It did it's job protecting everything else, but MOV devices are one and done against lightning strikes. Their toast after that.HT SYSTEM-

tony they are plugged in because of my bad knees, it's hard to get to the floor and harder to get up! I may use that stuff eventually now all I have to do is hit the power strip with my cane lol.
-
oh and the Panamax site says it is "fuseless and auto restting" so I guess it's not a one shot deal
-
You may also want to check out the APC H15 from BH Photo....like 230 shipped and they are a real online retailer, so u are safe.
-
The APC H15 has served me well for many years. Good bang for the buck power center.
-
Im pulling the trigger as we speak....don't really need the battery backup, but this seems to be a winner for the price vs. many of the Panamax or Monster offerings
-
FYI...the APC H15 does not have battery backup.

Panamax, APC, Belkin PureAv, and Furman all make good, similar products. Just pick the one with features and number of outlets you need. No consumer surge suppression product, regardless of technology, will protect you from a direct lightning strike. The best protection during lightning storms is to unplug your gear.afterburnt wrote: »Is anyone familiar with this item?
