Speakers for old JVC

I know this may seem rather humerous, but I got an old JVC CD player from a yard sale without the speakers. Fortunately, I was able to rig up some speakers just to check that the CD player worked (it works). Unfortunately, I cannot use those speakers permanently with the CD player. It is a JVC XL-M505 with a plug in port on the back for the speakers. I read that RT16 speakers are compatible with this player, but I don't want to spend a lot on this system since I will get rid of it later. My questions: 1)are the Polk RT16 speakers my best option and can I get them inexpensively somewhere? 2)are there other speakers compatible with the system that I can get inexpensively? I just want a simple cd player, nothing expensive and nothing fancy, but I would like for it to sound good.... Thanks.
