Kimber speaker cables

Looking at buying used kimber cables. I see there's a newer cable red and clear and the blue and black older version. Currently using belden 5000ue 12 awg.

1. Is the newer version that much better?
2. Is the 8tc worth twice the cost of the 4tc sonically?

The 8 tc is more so for bigger speakers with bigger woofers. If your using smallish speakers like bookies or small floorstanders, the 4tc should work fine for you.

Thanks. Learning something is always a good thing.

Any sonic difference, iyo, between the versions?

Yeah, some....but you won't realize it much with smaller speakers. You need bigger speaks to take more advantage of what the 8TC has to offer. Then there's the 12 tc. lol

Seriously, the 8 has pretty much the same sound signature as the 4tc, just more of it. The newer versions of both have a slightly more detailed sound to them. I would hunt up the newer versions if possible.

    BTW...how long of cables do you need ? Here's a deal on 5 footers...8tc for 120 bucks

Thanks. I need 8 footers. Think I will buy bulk 4tc and terminate myself. This way I can take care of the center also. Hard to find a set of 3.

I have owned both 4TC and currently have 8TC. The difference is extremely subtle. I have consistently recommended a 4TC/PBJ speaker/IC combo thru the years; as a budget cable setup that you may not ever find a need to upgrade.

Thanks. Would the 4tc be a good match for the Lsim 703?

  • I'm thinking of using 1 foot lengths of Kimber Kable 4tc for making jumpers. Is that too long?

Depends...what connectors are you going to use or are you using bare wire ends ? If bare wire, they can be a lot shorter.

  • I have some Nakamichi banana connectors that I could use. But, I am not opposed to using Kimber spades and bananas.

1ft seems kind of long for jumpers.

What connectors are you using for the speaker cables ? Lets say your using banana's on the speaker cables, then you don't want to use banana's for the jumpers, see what I'm sayin' ?

I would think 6-8 inches is plenty long no matter what connectors you use, but bare wire can be as little as the distance between posts.
