SDAs and passive pres...

So I have been eyeballing pres to upgrade.
My search has lead me to a few different passive designs that I am drawn to.
Specifically a design that uses 4 transformers with a pair of 33 step Seiden attenuators.
I like the idea of passives but have little experience with them.
Anyone here had any first hand experience?

I use a Placette RVC passive, which utilizes Vishay resistors for attenuation, and is remote controlled. It's spendy at $1000 + $20 for shipping, but it's absolutely the most transparent volume control I've ever (not) heard. I like that it presents a "perfect" load to the amp at all settings; and the volume is controlled in 125 steps, which lets you get the level right where you want it.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Thanks for the input Steve...but I ended up going another route. See the Stupid Rabbit Hole thread. Hehe."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."
