Hooked up Doug's cables late last night. Don't laugh too much when you see the old speaker cable's. And yes some did not have any connectors. LMAOnci06k2bx7lp.jpg

First impression's; When they replaced my 15+ year monster cable wiring, I thought I might have hooked them up incorrectly. There was a veiled sound that reached towards the "oh know, what is wrong" thought. Ear to the speaker test and was bummed. Last night they burned for about four hours.

Mind you I am had some old stuff and Doug's cable's need some time to burn in.

At the second using (5 hours) they already relaxing. Spoke to Doug earlier this morning and he said give them 60-100 hrs of time to burn in. Perfect 'cause I am off of work for two weeks.

Listening to some classic old rock, Zep, Floyd, and Fleetwood.

    more to come....,

Just a quick update. I have been running them at 12 hours and have had an increase in midrange and with some slight speaker placement (moved them closer to the wall) and increase in bass.

Forgot to add, Sunday the will be exercised with some high volume for many hours. W4S SX-1000 should push everything quite nice.

Another day and pushing just under 50 hours. Also did some high volume with the W4S monos. I was able to rotate the volume just past 12 o'clock. Very loud but no distortion, clipping and talk about bass. This is when speaker location/adjustment came in.

I mentioned in another post about bass issues and most likely it was a combination of two items. The first being the amp. Second the speaker wiring.

Since two new items were introduced and has changed the dynamics of the sound from the 1.2's speaker movement was needed.

Doug's without a question of doubt are allowing those amps to breath unimpeded life into the speakers.

The sweet spot as the speaker cable burn in is still moving. What was within five feet is now greater than eight feet. It appears or should I say sound is simply put filling my room.

I'll admit as of now my polks 1.2 sound better at volumes just above casual conversations. There it seems the SDA effect and bass really do their work.

So correct. Pushing them closer to the wall was right on for the bass issue.

Well I have just under 90 hours on Doug's Bi-Wire speaker cables. Let me begin by saying that I was pessimistic when I have read folks talk about hardware that opens up after time.

Well color me red and count me as for one who has heard an overall increase in sound quality.

On the first day I hooked them up and there was a prominent vail sound to the point I was disappointed. I placed my ear directly to the old 1.2's over and over. It was a let down. I walked away but let the music play. Now the good news...

After 50 hours I spun up a digital hi-rez of the stones get yer ya ya's out. What was that sound from my speakers notes and instruments that I have not heard !?!

I listened to the entire disk three times. It was that good.

After 90 hours I feel they have truly opened up and in simple essay I have a reason to listen to my collection all over again just to hear what I was missing.

And now back to the music...

You are in trouble now if you have heard burn-in. Have fun.

  • Mark, glad you are enjoying your new cables. :D Thanks for the kind words guys :) Some don't believe in burn in time, but as a lot of you have learned, it is a very real phenomena.

Even though I only got Doug's Furez 10AWG cable I like them a lot more than the Monoprice stuff I had in there. Sounds so much better and only gets better with time.
