Interconnect cable for turntable

I'm slowly getting my 2 channel system completed. Next step will probably be the cable from tt to pre. I think I read somewhere that it is desirable to have a very well shielded cable for this or will most any decent quality cable do?

I've been reading up on this also - it seems shielding is important as well as keeping the capacitance of the cable as low as possible, and the length short. Does your table have detachable cables? Mine are hard wired in which makes things a bit more involved. My first budget minded choice as of now would be the blue jeans LC-1 but they didn't recommend using that for soldered on connections.2 Channel - Polk SDA-2BTL, Carver TFM-35, Peachtree iDAC, Qobuz streamed via Episode Lynk using bubble UPnP server

I use the LC-1's for my tt and I like them just fine. I am sure you can do better, however, for a bit more $.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. Did you solder yours direct?jeremymarcinko wrote: »I use the LC-1's for my tt and I like them just fine. I am sure you can do better, however, for a bit more $.

No. My tt has a Rca Jack not soldered on leads. I would suggest removing the leads and soldering a Jack in its place, so you can use any cable you choose to.Oh, Listen here mister. I still use coax IC's for turntables and prefer stranded center conductor for flexibility. Consider getting some replacement ends for your turntable cables. I installed these Vampire coax RCA's on a Yamaha YP-D10 I had.

For the guys that love to go overboard and have the coin to spend ,all power to ya. Me I have what came w/ my JVC-QL-A200 semi auto w/ fixed RCAs and not replaceable w/ a Grado FT+1 cart. It sounds great w/ running through the NAD1020a pre and my sets of spkrs. My Denon DP-1200 has rca jacks...thanks to member voltz, I'll be receiving his old Pro-ject cable. Since it came with his tt I am assuming it's properly shielded. For grounding I plan to run an insulated solid copper wire? Man, it's been a long time since I spun me some vinyl...looking forward to it! Need to save up some coin to have the old Shur cart retipped, in the meantime I'll be choosing some albums in decent shape to mannualy clean for the audition.Yep, my name really is Bob.

Timely thread. I was just thinking about replacing the cables on my old Pioneer PL-530. They are hard wired and haven't decided if I'll install jacks or just hard wire new cables.

After trying many cables I found that the blue jean cable LC-1 is the best from TT to phono and use a MIT AVT-1 from phono to PRE-amp. The BJC cable has one of the lowest capacitance I have measured from tonearm wire to RCA end. I'm sure moving up the line to a higher end MIT RCA going to the main Pre-Amp would be better but this is what I settled on. I ordered a foot and a half cable to minimize capacitance. I tried tonearm cables from Kimber and nordost and sent them both back they lost to a cheap 30.00 cable. Also note it had the best shielding out of all the ones I tested. The MIT sounds best IMO I did try a companion BJC LC-1 but it couldn't best audioquest King Cobra or Kimber Hero, Nordost Purple flare, or the winner The MIT AVT-1.

So not to dredge up an old thread - but I had been considering using the Blue Jeans Cable LC-1 for my turntable to phono stage connection for a while now based on the low capacitance, and frankly, the fact that I wasn't that pleased with the Signal Cable Analog 2 IC I was using recently in that spot. Sounded a bit veiled and not very lively I guess.
Long story short, I ordered a 3' pair of BJC LC1s last week and installed them between the Dual 1229 and my Vincent, (then kept SC Analog 2's from the Pho8 to the preamp) and voila! The veil has been lifted! I'm immediately noticing a brighter presentation, and the (admittedly very slight) muddiness is gone - exactly what the Dr. ordered!

I too believe that the low capacitance of the lc1 makes it a good choice for a turntable ic. I have purchased several of these cables and use them exclusively in my system. The BJC lc1's are certainly a great value are a good match for my very modest gear.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. Its a bit pricey.... but I've heard good things about these...

^^ I'm sure that's a great cable ^^ very nice indeed! I would love to hear/compare - but as you say - about 7 times the cost of the BJC (plus the Dual also doesn't require a ground wire). I have no doubt cables like this make a huge difference - but for perspective that's about what I spent on all my Signal Cable for 2CH combined! Yeah, but I'm sure doug could work with ya on the cost. IIRC the "Alpha" wire is more expensive, so he could likely use a less expensive wire to lower the cost... Maybe the same for the connectors he uses....
And Polk members get a discount too
