Need a strong and adjustable flashlight

My dog and I go for walks frequently at night and where we live there is no artificial light..we either get moon or star light or next to nothing at all. Sometimes I hear that bump in the night that makes me wonder what is lurking out there. I need a powerful pocket flashlight that can illuminate a broad area or quickly adjustable to narrow the field and best of all be operational with a pair of gloves on.....any suggestions?
Yep, my name really is Bob.

If you're a Costco member they usually have decent lights for cheap. If you have a big pocket, they have a 1000 lumen light that adjusts from spot to flood. They have smaller non adjustable lights at great prices too, 250 - 300 lumens, which is enough for me to light up my back yard to about 75 yards."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

If you have access to a tool truck they usually have some very nice offerings for around $100 that are rechargeable. Tread lightly though, flashlights can be a rabbit hole.

Rechargable Streamlights are excellent.

Well you can't go wrong with a 3D cell LED mag-light. I bought one and good god they are VERY bright and reach out far for an LED light. My problem I had with LED flashlights was while very bright for the first 12" they never through the light far, no worries with the old mag light.
and if need to you can beat something to death and still have light to do it:) -

Maybe I should check Sams Club, no Costco here. But you answered a question for me(I think)...I should look for 250+ lumens?

For just looking around there's a million small pocket flashlights
that use either two AA or three AAA. Either throw out a good
light for $10 and can be found anywhere.
If you might run into an angry dog, critter or human,
a three cell maglight and holster is a must. About $40
and you can beat the snot out of just about anything.

I use a led head flashlight.... That way your hands are free to pick up **** and hold the leash. Some of them are very bright
On the other hand a maglite with 4 D batteries can bash the skull of most anything with 4 or 2 legsMy New Year's resolution is 3840 × 2160

If you are looking for maximum brightness in a compact flashlight, I'd recommend something from Fenix or Surefire that uses lithium ion batteries. They make dozens of different versions of tactical flashlights. Unfortunately, some of their flashlights are quite expensive. There are a couple of other similar brands too.
I also agree the 4D Maglite can be used as a weapon. Its light out put is pretty dim though compared to the newer technology flashlights. -
My favorite, got a dozen of them around the house and in the cars:

The focus spot is adjustable. You can get a variety of mounting brackets to mount them to lots of different things. Kids mount them to their bikes. I have one also mounted on a forbidden-to-talk-about "tool".
Also like this, although a bit old and a bit expensive:

I have a Nitecore SRT-6 flashlight that uses the latest Cree XML LED... It uses a single 18650 rechargeable cell. The light packs an output of 930 lumens and is infinitely variable from full off to full power by rotating the head.
The beam is a medium type... It is not a wide angle but it is not a pencil long throw beam. I love it. It sells for $72 from Amazon. It does require you buy a 18650 charger and cells though. The link below includes the charger and the 18650 cell for $100...

I would imagine Sams Club has something similar. Yeah, I'd say 200 lumens and above is the way to go.

Muncybob,
I have been collecting flashlights for some time. Fenix, Surefire, and Nitecore are all really nice as I have many from all of them. The newest addition to my collection is the Thrunite TN12 with 1050 lumens. For batteries, I use the Samsung and Panasonic 18650. It is almost the same size as the Fenix P35 but noticeably brighter.
And a pic of the Thrunite compared to the Fenix

If you wanted a light cannon, that is a different story and will not be exactly pocket size anymore.
Now, you could also mod these flashlights, such as dedome, change Cree LED and greatly increase the lumens, etc.
Last thing, the other brands all have very similar models to the Thrunite TN12 such as the Fenix P35, Nitecore P12 but... The TN12 price is the cheapest of the bunch.
