IMF/Irving M. Fried/Fried Model R Speakers

For your consideration is a restored pair of very rare Fried Model R monitors. These are a mirror imaged pair with consecutive serial numbers. These exceptional speakers employ phenomenal KEF LS3/5A drivers, including the T27 melinex tweeter and B110 bextrene midrange. In order to supplement this Irving M. Fried supplemented these two drivers with the B139 'racetrack woofer' for improved bass response. The speaker employs a resistive line tunnel (modified transmission line variant) to increase the LF extension. This speaker exhibits very sweet highs with the T27 tweeter along with the lush British midrange long associated with the B110.
This particular pair of units had the wood refinished and were coated with multiple thin layers of semi-gloss polyurethane during restoration and received a full recap to restore them to their full sonic capabilities. These were some of my favorite speakers but are now available as I have recently restored some other large IMF speakers. Attached are various photos of the speakers including the crossover and an internal view of the foam configuration that facilitates the 'resistive line tunnel'.
Local pickup in Indy, listing these for $400.

There are very few things that would make me wish I were in Indiana ;- )
...but these loudspeakers would.
Jeepers, those are nice. -
I don't have a use for them, but if I was within 100 miles of those, they'd be in my vehicle for sure. Gorgeous restoration on those tough to find vintage beauties.

I don't consider it trashing. These are for sale because they were replaced with big *ss IMF's very similar to your CL posting. I appreciate it, the restoration took a long time on the cabs.

Sold.

Thanks man. I'm shocked it took this long. These things got me addicted to british audio.

mccarty250... I recently picked up a pair of the Fried Model 9’s, unfortunately the T27 tweets are not working in mine. Any suggestions you might have on troubleshooting these. The tweeters are not dead just not getting power. If you have any suggestions I’d really appreciate it.
Terry, -
Really old thread bud. But, if you know the tweeters are good then it would be a crossover issue.

Just grasping at straws here, not a lot of info on these speakers out there. I am beginning to think the original tweeters are bad. I had a extra tweeter from a Monitor 10 speaker that played fine.

The KEF T27 tweeters are going to be expensive, there's a NOS pair on eBay for $350.00. There seems to be a company in France that sells replacement diaphragms and voice coils for rebuilding them.

Have you measured the tweeters with an ohm meter? What do they read?
BTW years later I wish I had never sold those model R's
