Hookup dvd player and TV

in Basic Hookup/Wiring Questions
I have a polk audio 6000 soundbar that I am trying to hook up to my blueray so that I can hear the movie sound through the soundbar. Currently I have it hooked up to the TV and the sound is great, but when I switch the mode to view the DVD player I can not get the sound to work, I hear what is on the TV even though the movie is playing. What do I have to do.
