I have the oppo connected to sc 27 bd input via hdmi. So the oppo is doing the conversion? Also, I thought the 105 had the better dac.

Noticed you do not show a sub in the line up. Does the harbeth produce that much bass? What size is your room?

I really like your use of the oppo and usb drive but the DW will not permit a separate 2 channel system at this time. From reading other threads, I believe if I add a pre with ht bypass I can get your setup to work.

No. When you connect the 103 to the SC27 via HDMI, you are letting the SC27 do the Digital to Analog conversion.

When you connect the 103 to the SC27 via analog RCAs from the 7 channel output of the Oppo, the 103 is doing the Digital to Analog conversion.

I had it bass backwards again. :(

Please recommend some good rca's that are in line, dollar value wise, with my current gear. I

I have an SVS PB12-NSD, however the Harbeth's go to about 46Hz, down 3dB. My room is fairly large---encompassing the family room/dining room/kitchen all in one area (great room). My sub is crossed at 45Hz, and level optimized for music/accurate bass levels. My system is also my HT with a 60" Panasonic plasma as my display. DirecTV HD Box and Oppo player run digitally into my DAC for audio.

I also use my Oppo as a pre. Bare bones system: Oppo 105; Sunfire Cinema Grand; Verizon box; PJ to a 110" screen. My system is 5.1, but only 2-channel for music.

I'm using Doug's IC's and am happy with them. My Oppo and amp are very close together so I was able to get by with short cables that obviously cost a little less than longer ones (adds up with 5-6 cables).

Did not know the oppo had ht bypass or is this not needed?

Sorry if the questions are elementary to those with the technical knowledge and experience in this area.

Maybe I need to research all of Steve's equipment and draw a line connection diagram to better understand this process. I will try this weekend even with my minute tech knowledge. Where can I find or does it still exist the "System Showcase"?

No center channel, just 2.1. Harbeth "mains" and the SVS sub. Sources connect to my DAC, then the DAC connects to my Placette Passive linestage, which then connects to my Parasound amp. The amp has "daisy chain" preouts that I use to provide a line level signal to my sub.

For quite a few months I was using my Benchmark DAC as my preamp, but then went back to using my Placette Passive linestage, as it gives me a little more deeper/wider soundstage. So, it's Oppo/HD TV box---DAC---Passive---Amp. This way I can either listen thru TV speakers (late night) via the HDMI connections, or thru the stereo on either source input.

what is it about just looking at the Harbeth & Stirling Broadcast that makes the hair of my arms standup, Acoustic sounds down in Salina carries them and the Vandy's and Splendor's...all out of my budget for now but maybe someday :)

Reviewed the entire thread last night and realized I derailed Voltz's discussion. Most, if not all, my comments belonged in the "Wiring" section in a separate discussion. Although I did learn a lot, I feel I owe an apology to Voltz's.

    Apologies to Voltz.

I spent this morning listen to some blu ray concerts & some Audio CD's using my HT setup (NAD T-758 + Adcom 5503) and OPPO 103 now that I have it hooked up via the analog cables.
And the sound still cannot compare to my 2 channel equipment. just not the same and can't compete.

I don't think it ever can compare exactly but you can get close within reason. Having had a dedicated 2 channel system myself and now just a combined HT / Music rig, there are things I miss. That said, you have entirely different speakers between the HT and 2 channel rigs. You might just throw those Monitor 10's in the HT rig for a few minutes and listen to them with the HT gear to get a sense of whether it's more gear or speakers at this point. Your Marantz player is definitely going to have a different sound signature than the Oppo.

True! makes a lot of sense I will give them 10's a go.. in fact I like to work them into a HT setup someday (heck I have some upgraded Monitor 4's). but now that I have some CRS to dress up maybe they will take over that spot :) food for thought and I have time to play around with everything!
