Some "things" that followed me home today

Out doing houses today and came across these.
Sansui A-9
Sansui T-9
Sansui RS-7 remote control system
Sansui Rs-7 remote "for the thing above"
Technics SL-Q300
Pair of Knight KN 3030K's "No idea on these", kinda neat inside.
The home owner did not have the matching Sansui turntable or tape player.
Everything does work.bad2quipawjl.jpg

Those old Knight speakers look like they're from the mid 60's pre Radio Shack Allied days, lol. Is the Sansui equipment from the 80's?

Yes, the speakers would have been pre-"ARS" (which was brief but tumultuous, see http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/history.html). Looks like Utah components in these speakers (which were sold as kits) -- nothing, sadly, to write home about. They'll be sensitive, and would, of course, benefit greatly from new XO capacitors of any decent kind.

You guys know about this site, yes? http://www.alliedcatalogs.com/catalogs_main.html

The Sansui stuff is "past their prime" hardware... but that doesn't mean it's bad hardware... and as I (unfortunately) like to say - "if it's free, it's for me!" ;- )

The Quartz-lock, P-mount Technics with a low-mass, straight arm ought to be a perfectly fine tt, despite having absolutely no "audiophile cachet". I'd say put a P-mount Grado Black on it and enjoy it!

    Nice set of acquisitions.

I remember those Technics TT's , they used to have them at Foley's Department Stores back around 1976, they were popular, kinda pricey $200.00 or so. Anybody buy one new back then? I think all in all you did quite well on this!

The P-mount, straight arm Technics is more like 1979-1980 vintage.

I think the 80's, not rare items I'm sure. That old RS-7 remote still worked, quick cleaning, new batteries and off it went. Kind of reminded me of the old "clicker" remotes due to it's size. Turntable worked also, cover has a crack, scratches but it played. It was almost free, $40.00 for everything. The sansui stuff will work just fine in my buddies pole barn.

I had a turntable just like that. It was bought new in 1982/83 and I still have it but have not used it like the last 20 years.

Maybe I should buy a new cart for it and give it a spin??

Hi Liberty, when you stored away your TT, did you leave the belt on it?

If it's the very same model (SL-Q300)... it's direct drive.

According to http://vintagetechnics.co.uk/turntables.htm it was available in 83-84. The accuracy of that site (a resurrected version of the old Vintage Technics site) isn't always the best, though.

Thanks K. Haven't had much time to play with them yet, mostly cleaning.
I can't believe the remote still works as it had batteries in it from who knows when, it was bad...

Yes my table is direct drive. All the models in that series were direct drive.
