New enthusiast with a mix trying to make things work.

Hey guys. Like the title says I'm fairly new to home audio setups and I have a mix of gear I'm trying to make work.

Any advice would be great. I've tried r/audiophile on reddit but they aren't a very active bunch when it doesn't concern hi-fidelity matching setups apparently.

I have a Pioneer VSX-D411 receiver to work around for now.

My speakers are 2 RTi-10s and 2 RTi-7s as well as a Cambridge Soundworks 12" slave subwoofer. I wasn't able to find the PSW master to match it but for 20$ I think it's a good deal (hopefully)

I am aware the receiver is under-powered if I try to connect both the 10s and 7s for surround and I'm clueless as to how to get the sub into the mix haha.

Anything would help. I like the way the RTis look in the living room and the 10s alone sound great on the Pioneer receiver there just isn't any real bass when it comes to movies and music without turning everything waaaaaay up. I'm open to all suggestions. My budget is pretty minimal at the moment as the mixup of equipment can attest to. Thanks guys.

The reason why there is no bass is because you are grossly under powering the 10's. Either of those speakers has outclassed what your using to drive them with.

Not familiar with that sub, but you should only need a subwoofer rca cable to go from the receivers sub out to the sub's lfe input. If you tell us what connections are available on the sub, we can better help you.

Is that slave subwoofer self powered ? I thought the slave worked off the amp of another self powered sub. If that's the case, you'd need an amp to power it.

Seems to me you have the wrong tools for the job intended.

  • haha yeah it's a slave to a pair. The master has the amp built in and just has a pos\neg out to the slave. The pair cost a grand back when but I figured the box alone as sturdy as it is for a 12" is worth 20 bucks. What's the most sensible solution without breaking me to get at least the 10s and a sub and going all out what can I do to get the 10s the 7s and the sub going. If buying a new power sub is better than trying to get an amp I'm fine with that.

Depends on what you want to spend. You'd need a receiver with 5.1 preouts to add an amp to push those 10's which yours doesn't have. Basically, that receiver is worthless for the speakers you have.

A pioneer SC series receiver will do them more justice as it holds it's power better. Subs...all depends on budget pal, but I'd be looking for a used sub from the likes of SVS, HSU, VELODYNE, Rel, Revel.....just to name a few.

The Pioneer SC receiver will get you by until you can add a good used amp for those 10's. Used amps run around 4-600 from Parasound or B&k which match up well with RTI speakers.
