First time in 2 weeks

Tonite I turned on the amps and CD player when I first got home. After dinner everything was warmed up and ready to go. This was the first time I have listened for a little over two weeks because of a head cold which caused my high frequency hearing to go away. I put on my Cheryl Crow: Saturday Night Dance Club CD and sat down with the remote in my hand. After a few minutes of silence I started the disc. I heard things I never heard before! This disc is awesome! Although I have listened to it close to 100 times it was different tonite. I heard cymbals comeing from places I hadn't noticed before on track numer 8, the guitar on track number 9 was an absolute delight which I had never really noticed before and throughout the disc I was pleasently surprised by new sounds.

So what happened? Maybe I'm very thankful that my hearing finally came back? Maybe it is better than it was? Or did I just take the time to get in the right mental attitude and made a big deal out of the listening session and gave my listening skills a real workout?

Probably the last option. Listening is hard work but well worth the effort if you can find the time. It is hard because you can't just listen to the song as if you were going to sing along or something. You have to really focus on what is happening and what the sounds are. For example, where is the drum set. Does it sound like a real drum set? Where is the bass guitar? What other guitars do you hear? Are there sounds you are not paying attention to?

Whew,
Hard work!

madmax, i've had this happen too. some weeks.. i get to busy with work and other things. that i don't have time to sit in a semi dark room and get a real good listen going. after a week or more, i get back some time and take a half a day and sit and listen to various CD's and usually can pick up one or more things i've never heard before too. So i totally understand your surprise in what you're hearing now.

it's really cool to sit back and enjoy familar music, but with added extras. :p
