crossover upgrade / rebuild; general questions - using BIC DV62si

Hey guys,
I'd like to play around a little with crossover upgrades / rebuilds.
Is this just as simple as identifying the parts on the OE crossover, and replacing them with the same spec pieces but better quality?

I picked up a little set of BIC DV62si's to play around with. they were originally going to be for a small 2.1 system I wanted to build for my parents, but my Mom says nay to big ugly bookshelf speakers, so I can keep 'em for myself, or return 'em. I'm sure I can probably find a use for them in the office or garage or something.

Anyway, I keep reading about the Ed Frias mod for these speakers, but I haven't really seen any specifics on this modification, no write-ups or plans. on top of that, none of the info I've seen is current; it's all a few years old from what I've come across so far.

at first I didn't realize how much these components cost, and one might argue that it's not really worth it on a cheap set of speakers. I kinda just want to see how it works without tearing into my good speakers yet, and apparently the little BICs are supposed to benefit nicely from modding.

I just pulled the back off earlier. there's really not much to this thing, and there's not really much in the way of insulation or damping inside, either. I haven't really torn into many sets of speakers, so not really sure what to expect here, but I read that some people are stuffing Owens/Corning insulation into speakers. I know I need to bone up on the speaker building reading. This is my first little project, so just thought I'd throw this out here too just to get started.

Whad'you guys think?

Save that money for doing a better pair of speakers.

They are just an ok pair of speakers on their own merits. If you are looking to practice modding, thn not a terrible idea with some cheap caps, but they really are not worth sinking a lot of money into.

really not a good idea anymore, unless the speakers are a sealed design. Fiberglass gets way brittle as it gets old, and an open port will just chuff it into your room and into your lungs....I don't recommend it. There is much better stuff for that.
