This hobby is crazy.

Or I'm just nuts. I can't believe I research every digital remastering before selecting a CD. This includes google searches, reading reviews, etc. Some remasterings just sound like crap though. My wife tells me "why don't I just download the MP3 file"....who's nuts?

We're all nuts!!! That's why we're here. You seem to take some extreme measures when selecting said cd's but it's all good. What kind of system/DAC, are you using?? That will make a huge differerence as to the outcome as well. What kind of player are you using? I never listen to CD's anymore, only ripped files in FLAC format and no matter how crappy the master or remaster is, they all sound pretty darn good to me.

You think that's crazy? Try getting into vinyl!
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Maybe, but I couldn't help thinking how crazy this hobby is as I was setting in the garage for 2 hours today stuffing sand through a 1/4 inch hole in my new speaker stands. LOL

That's a new one on me....sand isn't used for the grade of the sand, only for the weight of it. You can shove 10 Rosie O'donnels in that stand if you could fit it and it would do the same as sand. Some use lead shot too, but you may hurt yourself if you ever have to move those stands.

I used Play Sand. Its cleaner and less dusty. Mainly I'm using for stability and I'm sure it will help with dampening too.
