I'm in wheeler dealer mode. In need of a 5 ch amp now that I have a full Lsi set up for my HT. I am willing to put up my Parasound HCA-1200 MKII as a trade or partial. This is killing me because I love this amp.

I have a B&K AV5000 amplifier driving my full lsi setup and does a really good job. I have bounced around selling it for years and upgrading but it becomes very cost prohibitive as my amp does not seem to bring much on the used market. You can get them CHEAP on ebay. Just my suggestion....
Here is one (the series II model) that you may be able to steal for a really good price and keep the parasound for future use on a 7.1 system!!!

You are correct, but I have found that even the AV5000 drives the lSi's nicely and I watch movies loudly. Had it for over two years and no problems at all.....I just wanted to link that particular auction because it was a good deal in my opinionShawn

Funny you linked me to that one. I am watching it and was thinking of making an offer on it.

I might be wrong but I think that the av5000 is rated at 5X105 not 5X185. This is per B&K specs.
The original version is rated at 105 W @ 8 Ohms only (production 1995-1998)
The later version: AV5000 Series II (production 1998-1999)
125 W @ 8 Ohms
185 W @ 4 Ohms
With the LSi speakers being 4 Ohms 185 w x 5 for under $400 is a no brainer.
However, the OP might consider a later version like this one on eBay:
B&K AV5125 (production 2000-2002) - $390

That would be nice but it would blow my budget clean outta the water.

Dave I love my B&K amp myself.... My Carver will soon be retired to greener pastures in someone else's rig lol....
PS I also love my 1200 II. I know that is a great amp for your Maggie's.

400 bucks would blow your budget ? I'd say keep the parasound, you can't replace it for what it would sell for, not the power or quality at that price. The other channels don't need as good a quality as the front left and right. Whats the budget for a 5 channel amp anyway ?

There is a 200.5 on eBay right now w 4 days left..... at the price its at, I'd watch it like a hawk...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I put a bid on that 200.5 yesterday, but I wont be jumping in anymore. It looks like a solid workhorse.
It is... better have a rack that can handle the 76 lbs of amp that it is.....
