Marantz 7701 Need Help

So i recently purchased a Marantz 7701, My first complaint being its 2014 and you still have to run an ethernet cord to this Pre. Seems Archaic to me. Secondly The Audysee EQ it has i cannot seem to fine tune. So i guess my question is. Do i need to run an EQ for 2 channel? Seems to me a 1500 dollar processor should do better on music than my Sunfire TGP2. It however sounds worse on music, especially noticeable in hi res downloads. I set it up according to Marantz spec. Called Marantz' horrible Customer Service. They could seem to care less if I returned it. Is there another processor in this price range that will fit my needs better? I have B&W speakers, also wondering if their is a better pairing for these.

  • Most auto eq's set the speakers to a flat frequency response curve for more accurate reproduction, but flat and accurate doesn't sound good right away if you're used to a more musical curve such as one with pronounced highs and lows. Give it chance or disable it altogether, but I have grown to appreciate it.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant
  • Im paying them for better sound, not bad sound i should "get used to" No offense intended. I do appreciate your input though. It's sounding like im just gonna have to run an EQ i guess. Always love spending 1500 and being dissapointed haha.

Relax dude....did you try manually adjusting ? Auto calibrations can sometimes suck the life out of music. Try turning the equalization off and put it in direct 2 channel with speakers set to large and see how it sounds. If that still displeases you, then it's a bad match up for you.
