I'm still hesitating with the RTi A5 vs RTi A7 (currently have TSi 300)
I've read tons of posts, where people say the RTi A5 has a better midrange, and the slight lack of bass compare to the RTi A7 can be corrected by a good sub, when there is nothing you can do to add more midrange on the RTi A7
But I've also seen posts from user saying there RTi A7 were sounding great....
I do not want to pull the trigger on one, and tell myself later "I should have take the other one....!!!"
I'm doing more movies than music (85%/15%), but with good speakers, I could listen to more music at the end, to come to a 50/50....maybe

If your doing movies then the A5's + a quality sub all day long. Your AVR will likely set your crossover to 80hz so the extra bass from the A7's wont really be that much better than the A5's.
The A5's also are easier to drive on a amp so you dont need to move to dedicated amplification which is something that should be seriously considered with the A7's and the A9's.
That said with the deal if you've got the cash and dont wanna wonder "what if", then get the A7's.
You will find overkill here is never considered bad"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

What would be a good sub to go with the A5?
A sub that will be good for both HT and music?

I have the RTi-8 which are close the the A5 for a sub I use an HSU VTF-2 MK3 sounds great http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2mk4.html if you can swing the extra I would get the VTF-3 MK5 HP http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-3mk5HP.html I listen to 50/50 music movies and the HSU are great.
For the A7 you will need a good power amp an AVR wont have the power to drive them rightWhen I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

I have the A5's and like them. Seem to be the case for most who buy the RTI A line. The A5's are lacking in the lower ranges, pretty much anything below 40 Hz. Music will go the lower range of the A5's, so a sub with music and movies.
The same for movies is true for just about any, if not all, for floor standers. You want to hear the extreme low signals, you need a powered sub. Not being an audiophile, let alone a purist, powered sub with 2 channel music is fine with me.
Got to admit, naked A7's look way better than naked A5's. -
Hey there, i tested the a7 when i was looking to buy my set. I originally went in for the a5 but the shop could not source them.
Played with the a7 and a9 and have to say if you want to get the a7 than you should consider a power amp. The avr in the showroom was a marantz 7008 but the a7's came to life when an external amp was used. The mids sounded much better and the sound was much cleaner too.
I ended up getting the a9's and am looking for a pre/pro setup now.

A9 are too big...So i have to decide between A5 or A7. Looks like I will go the A5 route, since i'm not planning to upgrade my AVR right nowRTiA5 + CSiA4 + Jamo SW410E

If using a AVR only the A5's are the only good choice IMHO.
Grab yourself a sub in the 500+ dollar range and you will enjoy them for sure.
The A7's are sure nice, but the A5's are more practical for most people and for HT.
I think your making a good decision

Yes the a9's are intimidating in person hehe, but yeah i was just stating that a power amp would be needed if you went with the a7 and as EndersShadow stated the a5's are suitabke for most ht setups that have movies as priority. A good sub will bring out the lows thats missing. I went for the system thats 50/50 movies to music.
Good luck with the new system. Let us know how you go with it

Yes with the A7 and A9 you will need an amp and nice neighbors, even the you will want a sub. the A5 and a good sub is all you need unless you want your neighbors hearing everythingWhen I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

What would be a good sub for a reasonable price, that will be good for HT but also for music? Some sort of good "compromise"...RTiA5 + CSiA4 + Jamo SW410E

Reasonable is a pretty broad term. Give us your budget and we'll be happy to spend it for you.

I don't know...honestly. So what would be the "cheapest" sub that will match well with RTi A5 for HT and also musicRTiA5 + CSiA4 + Jamo SW410E

I run dual PSW 111s with my A5s great for HT and Music, you might as well throw one of those in your shopping cart with your A5s after all its half price for 50% off a pair of A5s and a PSW111 your getting a heck of a deal. With the money saved you can start saving up for an AVR with pre outs and a Amp, go on and click that button you wont be sorry

They are. I'm a huge Polk fan but for bang for buck subs I'd look elsewhere. ID is the way to go. Look to SVS or HSU.

I have the 505 matched with my rti12's crossed over at 60hz. With proper placement and leveling I find it very musical and it blends in beautifully with the rti's.Oh, Listen here mister. When picking speakers and subs, knowing your room size is critical
Bigger speakers is not always better
Room space is critical for subs and speakers IMHO2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Room size does play a big part in your entire setup. For a sub the SVS or HSU are very good. Just get the best one you can afford, better to over kill your sub than be wanting more down the road. When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Thanks for pointing it out JM, the newbs need to understand we(established CP members) are serious about the 100 post rule and why we have it. We watch out for each other here, if you are new here, in time you will understand this is for the best.

Well I have the SVS PB1000 and it has been an incredible addition to my 18x26 LR. It's used both for HT and 2.1 stereo as I can't be bothered with (or afford) 5.1/7.1.
I would be hesitant to get the SVS SB1000 as its limited output might be an issue. If space is an issue the SB2000 is an option though its $700.
I've read nothing but good things about both SVS & HSU though. Now I think you can buy and thus try out some SVS models at BB/Magnolia.HT: Marantz NR-1603, Oppo 981, Def Tech SM55, SVS PB-1000

Another thumbs down for Polk subs. When it comes to a sub, go big or go home. Wait, save your penny's. Hell, wait until tax time. Right around the corner.

I will soon have 2 of those gorgeous piano black SVS pb13ultra's Can't wait!!!!
Tested the SVS PB12 Plus against the Velodyne SPL12Ultra and found the svs sub hit harder and tighter.
