Original SDA1's

I have an original pair of SDA1's. I am looking to do some upgrading of the crossovers, and updating the tweeters, but the question I am pondering is, is it worth up grading the speakers to SDA1A's? I have seen the directions concerning the work to do the conversion, but is there a reason to go through the conversion. Is it worth it from an audio stand point?

If you are going to go through the trouble and expense of upgrading crossovers and tweeters, it's worth looking at going all the way I'd say. Others here are more well versed in the different models and what they can in fact be upgraded to as far as improvement. Given that, spend some time reading the Polk SDA Manual and you will learn volumes on the possibilities.

Pretty obviously Polk thought it was worthwhile. So worthwhile, that they drew up instructions and offered a parts-kit.

Jump on it--but don't ignore the mods and tweaks popularized since then.

One question is whether you upgrade both tweeters per cabinet to the RD0 series, or just the stereo tweeter.

Flathead38... I am an original SDA2 owner.. just a model down from you. I own a couple of 4th gen SDA products that benefit from the Dreadnought Isolation Transformer, but I still plan to upgrade this original pair of SDA's that I've owned since 1984. While it might not achieve some of the acoustical achievements of the later models, I'm sure I'll still find satisfaction in improving this speaker pair that I've had for going on 30 years now. Hard to part with them after all these years, so best to take them to their highest performance level is my attitude. Wow! Looking forward to the improvements.
