PSW 10 Subwoofer
I've discovered I need a subwoofer for my current 2 channel system. Have a house with a 14 by 14 by 9 room that is acoustically perfect for stereo. But my Jamo C 601 bookshelf speakers don't have the Bass I need to adequately cover the room.
I noted this Subwoofer is on sale right now. From what I've read it has clean, tight bass when you play it at low to moderate volume. I don't crank up the music and don't need heavy booming or thumping bass. Just need to be able to hear it when I play my music.
Will this subwoofer be adequate for this situation?

I use a PSW10 for music & like it just fine. For me, all I want is to fill out the bottom end for (mainly) classical music with SPLs _peaking_ at 90 dB at most. As long as you don't want big, hard thumpin' bass it should do OK.

I think the psw10 will be adequate but if you can swing it, I'd go with the 505 for $169.

Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant -
Having owned both the PSW-505 and and PSW-10, I would not recommend the PSW-505 for music. The PSW-10 will be OK at moderate levels in small to medium sized rooms.2.1: PC>Schiit Gungnir MB>Schiit Freya Noval>NAD C-270>Ascend Acoustics Sierra-1, HSU STF-2 5.1: HDMI Bitstream>Denon AVR-1910>polkaudio RTE55, CS350-LS, RT3, HSU STF-2, Visio M55-F0

I am just doing a straight, traditional 2 speaker setup for music. No video or Home Theater etc. Using a Qinpu A3 amp and also a Dayton Audio DA120 T class amp. Just looking for a little more bass that the Jamo's can't provide in that room. They are adequate with the bass in a small 9 by 11 room that is carpeted. But clearly lacking in the larger room with plaster walls and hardwood floor.

CAUTION!!!!
Class T (& I believe class D) amps cannot be connected to a sub using the speaker level method! With a T-amp, all the lines are 'hot'; there is no common ground. Either use the line level from pre-amp or pre-outs on a receiver, OR get a special cable to convert speaker level from your amp to line level input for the sub.

Ugh. Did not know a Class T and D amp was not compatible with a subwoofer. May be back to finding another pair of speakers then. The Qinpu matches up very well with my Mirage OM 10 speakers and now I have found the Dayton Class T works great with the Jamo C 601 speakers.
One last shot at seeing if I can make the existing lineup work. I have a pair of heavy duty metal stands that I purchased recently and they seem to help the Bass when I use the C 601's in the small apartment room. Will try them in the larger house room and see if that will give me adequate Bass. If not, I will have to decide between new speakers or a new amp and subwoofer. -
Speaking of Dayton, have you looked at the Dayton subs? My son has a 10" Dayton sub that he uses for music and it is rather impressive http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-1000-10-100-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-628 . It completely blows my PSW-10 away. They even have a wireless version http://www.parts-express.com/8-wireless-subwoofer-package-dayton-audio-sub-800-8-80w-powered-subwoofer-sub-link-xr--300-581 .
The PSW-10 tends to chuff when pushed hard (stick a sock in the port).Stan

Few points....
1- you said this is for music, but your looking at HT subs. The PSW line of subs was built for HT. The micro pro or DSW line is more so for music.
-
2- You want to put the psw10 in a larger room. It won't due in a larger room, unless you like slow muddy bass from trying to push it to fill that room.
There's nothing short of a gazillion subs available from various manufactures, don't pick the wrong one for your application simply based on price.HT SYSTEM-

Thanks for the info. I don't know a thing about Subwoofers. At this point though it seems irrelevant to buy one since the Dayton amp (confirmed by Dayton) is not suitable for matching to a Subwoofer. Unless I buy another Qinpu I will be looking at another pair of speakers with more Bass if the newer stands and working on their placement cannot bring out more Bass in that room.
