Stupid question time

Boozhound phono preamp with step-up. I'll start with the step-up portion as these fewer parts and is less intimidating.

Well I'm taking a drive into soldering a couple of circuit boards. This I have never done before. This may sound "stupid" to some of you but parts like caps and resistors can they be soldered in backwards. Is there a + or - side to them ?? Looking at them I don't see that it would make a diff. Still I wan't to ask to be sure.

Now that I've asked please be gentle as I'm a real newbie and getting my feet wet for the first time.
(Don't beat me up to bad OK guys LOL)

Thanks P-man

The filter caps are directional, the coupling caps and resistors are not. The stripe on the filter caps indicates the negative post.

    Thanks Jesse
A picture is worth a 1000 words. I followed the picture as well as the diagram.
So I'm thinking I'm OK so far. I'll send it to a friend in MN and have it looked over when It's completed.

P-man...nothing wrong with asking questions...diodes with a stripe indicate negative post also...in case you need that sometime...for your info!
