I need to pull a bearing off a fan and see all sorts on the internet and ebay. While the bearing is fairly small I want something that will also be useful in the future, so I don't want to buy a piece of junk that is limited in use or will break...any suggestions on types or brands? Would like to stay at/under $60 or so.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to bearing/gear pullers, I have at least 10. Best advice, get the one that fits your needs for this job.Political Correctness'.........defined

For a 1 off job I'd look at renting one.

See if you can borrow one from parts store. Some loan tools.

So many go the route of buying one at Sears, use it, then return it. (not me) If you've got some drill bits, taps and machine screws, you can make one up out of mild steel a lot of times. Also, sometimes a couple C-clamps or bar clamps can be used for pulling duties. Wear eye protection ! Those things can slip, suddenly and violently on occasion. Beware of the soft, die-cast pot metal used on many fan pulleys it can break very easily.

Auto parts stores will let you borrow one for a deposit that you will get back when the tool is returned.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. x4 for getting a parts store loaner.Music is like candy, you have to get rid of the rappers to enjoy it

A loaner would be cheaper for sure, but I like to have tools on hand that I may need and I can just take 'em out of the tool box. On pullers, if it says they are 3"...does that mean will handle 3" diameter or will reach down 3"?Yep, my name really is Bob.
