Different manufacturers remotes

Drawing a blank on avs forum, Yamaha & couple of others. I own Yamaha RX-A3020, I understand I cannot use another Yamaha next to the 3020 because same brand remotes work or at least confuse same brand receivers/components. Can anyone tell me if i buy a different brand amp/avs-sony,onyko,denon etc will the remotes for each brand mess with the other brand? I have Yamaha running my TV/Home theater and want to operate adjacent workout/party room from same rack w/different avs & speakers.thank you

Different brands use different codes, so you should be fine. As always though, there may be an exception or two, but I've not run across one.

  • I do know from experience that Marantz/Phillips remotes used to work with one another as they used to be made by the same people.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant
  • Yamaha responded, I changed the ID to 2 on my V671 & remote, works great. When I try & use the 671 remote on the A3020 actually get an error message on the 3020 saying wrong remote. Very pleased, technology helping me, wod-uh-know?

Philips wrote the software for some Yamaha DVD universal players a while back. Not sure if this is still true. But there is some overlap between certain Philips and Yamaha products.

There are also a few others that overlap. But I do believe that of the MAJOR manufacturers of AV equipment: Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo, Sony and so on there is not much overlap. One thing that is amusing though is that I have a Pioneer AVR from 1989/1990 (when they were still made in Japan) and a newer one from several years ago. I have both in the basement and the new Pioneer remote turns them both on at the same time so it looks like Pioneer has not changed its codes for the last couple of decades? This is also true of many Sony CDPs, etc.

And for the record, I programmed my remote once, 4 months ago, 671 & 3020 sit close to each other on my rack and neither remote operates the other unit. Get error message every time I try, powered off, unplugged, no problems. I have not changed batteries in either remote yet, will advise if I have a problem. Very pleased, w/Yamaha.
