Rotel receiver - channel out

I have one channel out on my receiver....everything else is fine.
What are the odds of this being a bad fuse?? If I were that lucky.....

Highly doubt it, pop the top and see what you can see. Look for a burnt mark around any parts on the boards or a wire that may have come off by the bad channel connections. I would think if it was a fuse, more than one channel would be out.

I popped the top but nothing....there seems to be some discoloration on the bottom of the circuit board but that seems like it could be excess glue. Darnitt....I need to learn how to fix these things myself.

No lose wires on the inside by where the bad channel comes in thru the case ? Any blown fuses you can see ? A bad fuse is an option, just not probable. In receivers, the boards are layered so it gets hard to see everything without moving some boards.

Trace back from the bad channel, look for any thing that's bulging, slightly discolored. Caps can go bad and resistors usually show some sign of being toast.

If you've ever used a multi-meter. Meter the diodes, resistors, and transistors, on that channel. Sometimes its just the output that has opened or shorted.. Other times there are several components like capacitors that get damaged.

Here is an example of a troubleshoot and repair.

While it takes some skill to figure things out and actually repair the unit, you might learn something along the way even if you can't fix it yourself. If you have to have a shop repair it ask them what went wrong and what they replaced.
