The Pioneer Elite SC series, but even they will not drive the 9's to their full potential.

What the previous poster means is, you really should have a separate amp driving those 9's. Which means you need a receiver with preouts to even be able to add an amp. Depending on budget, we can't really make a suggestion without knowing.

  • I had an Elite Pioneer AVR, Yamaha RXA, and also Yamaha RXV model amp. I was quite happy when I bi-amped them with the RXV. It was night and day difference over the Pioneer. I like both Pioneer and Yamaha so I am not brand biased. However, like many say it is true they are power hungry. I am now running RXA-1010 as a preamp to an Emotiva XPA-2 feeding 500 watts to each. This doesn't mean you can't be happy with just a good receiver it just depends on your expectations, room size, or what you expect out of them. If you just want a good sounding experience in a relative size room OK but, to make them shine a dedicated amp just for them will bring them to a whole new life.

Lets look at it this way....

Why would anyone spend good coin on a set of speakers and NOT want to use them to their full potential ?

A9's. The more power the better. Tony is spot on. Be careful on the volume when using the A9's with an AVR. With proper amplification, source and pre or AVR; they sound very good.

  • To be on the safe side , 200 watts minimum is usually recommended, but there are a few exceptions that would depend on the build quality of the amplifier.
