Finally Committed to a DVD Player!

Hi,
I just wanted to thank everyone for their help in my selection of a new universal DVD player. Well after driving everybody crazy, including myself, I decided to go with the Denon DVD-5900. I contracted purchase of the thing with my local dealer. Apparently the 5900's are way backordered because Denon never expected such demand for them. I also learned that Denon had an extra run of the product this past weekend to try to meet demands. So basically, if I don't get it this week, I'm going to have to wait until next month when they do another product run. I've also heard that this unit is shipping with some sort of detection device whereby if you needed to have it serviced and you bought it from an unauthorized seller, they could trace the unit or something like that. They obviously want to discourage internet sales. I don't know if I fully believe this, but it does make one feel like "Big Brother " is watching.

Anyway, I hope this unit is worth all of the trouble I've gone through to get it.
Time will tell. I'll post a review, when and if the unit ever arrives.

    Phew......incredible choice. An Aussie over at HTF likes his better than the 2900 for music. Big $$, though. Can't wait for the review.

    Welcome to the Denon club!! You will be very happy with your purchase. I also read that Denon is coming out with 5 new models of DVD players by the end of this year.

    Hi debussy,
    I just wanted to let you know that a local electronics store (Brandsmart) near me in Pompano Beach, FL is discontinuing all their Denon stock because they will no longer carry Denon. They carried Denon for years and are an authorized dealer. They had the 5900 as of a few days ago. I bought a 2200 because it was more in my price range ($350.00 for a demo unit). You can probably get a good deal $200-$300 off if you are interested because they need to get rid of them. Their # is 954-698-1000 if you are interested.

    Hi,

    It was really nice of you to give me the Brandsmart lead. I have shopped several times in their stores. In fact, when I was looking for the unit, I called the Ft. Lauderdale store first. I tried the store you mentioned but they were sold out. Bummer. I have no luck.

    I just called over to the Brandsmart in Deerfield Beach, they said they have one 5900 left. It is a demo unit with the remote. They quoted me $1700.00. If you are in the area, thats not a bad deal, I think they are $2000.00 retail normally. I just bought a 2200 demo from them on Tuesday. Do you live in S. Florida?

    Thanks so much for the tip. No I don't live in the Florida area. I live in New Jersey. I did call the store in Deerfield and knew about the demo for $1,700.00. I decided to stick with the retailer here I had contracted with to get a brand new one for $1,700.00, with some really nice financing. The only drag is waiting for the unit to arrive, which should be mid March.
