Polk RTI 10's boosted highs or accurate highs?

Hi everyone,
Over the weekend I auditioned some RTI 10's, I wanted to hear the 12's but they didn't have them in stock. I currently have Wharfedale Evo 40's and after listening to the Polks, the highs on the Evo's are quite a bit lower in level. At this point I don't know which ones are the most accurate. I very much liked the Polks but I don't want to get something that turns out to be fatiguing farther down the line. I used to own Klipsch and that was the case with them although I miss their dynamics. Any thoughts?

I wondered the same thing about my Rti8's. I don't know the answer. At first they seemed "overly bright", but now, I really like them.

I have the 12's and would have to agree ...
They seemed great when I auditioned them, but bright out of the box almost to the point of being strident. However, following a relatively short break in period they calmed down and I like them very much. -
Hi guys,
Thanks for the prompt replies. It's interesting that you thought the same thing I did. Do you think the highs settled down some or was it the woofers loosening up and filling out the bottom end? What speakers did you have previous to these and what models did you compare to the Polks and what influenced your decision? I'm basically looking for something that can take a little more pounding and are more efficient that what I have now. The Evos employ two 6 1/2 inch kevlar drivers per speaker and really get a workout when you drive them hard. They are 89db/1watt efficient. I think the Polks are a little more efficient at 91db which is almost like doubling amplifier power. I hope to listen to the RTI 12's this Friday. Again; thanks for your replies. Keep them coming.

In my HT area I listen to 2 channel as well although it is not my primary 2 channel set up.
I had old Altec Lansings which are still decent and I still have them but they've been moved elsewhere.
The dedicated 2 channel is an entirely different set up with no Polks.
In looking for replacements for the HT Mains I demo-ed the RTi8's, 10's, 12's & 150's and my abbreviated evaluations are below.
Keep in mind that for my own purposes I wanted a full range speaker which by definition almost ruled out the 8's w/o even listening to them.
8's - Highs are fine, mids are fine and clearly better than the 10's and 150's, and maybe slightly better even than the 12's but not by a lot. Bass, What bass ?
10's - Highs are fine, mids are a little weak but bass is good but not as good as the 150's and 12's.
150's - Highs are fine, mids about like the 10's, good bass, maybe even a little more extension than the 12's.
12's - Highs are fine, mids are fine but maybe not quite as good as the 10's, good bass and either the best or maybe slightly below the 150's.
Although no one speaker stood out as better in all categories to my ears the 12's were imho the best all around.
Rick
PS I should add that I also listened to the LSi towers and although I think they are good speakers they are not my cup of tea.
