I Scored Today!

Been regretting selling my RT800i floorstanders since I handed them off to the new owner several months back... But, today, I stumbled on a nice pair of RT55's for 50 bucks. Glad to have the bookie version of the 800's! And, the price? I felt a little guilty...

Now to find a ridiculously cheap receiver to set up a nice sounding & economical 2-channel rig! My 9-year old daughter and I have been 'jammin' to some tunes - I just love that she enjoys listening to music as much as I do! It's our bonding time.

Thanks! The speaker deal was good, but the time with my daughter is priceless! And yes, they are growing up WAY too fast. My girls are 9 and 11 now, and were only born yesterday... How did that happen?!?

Oh, we had a little of that last night with my 11-year old! Over-tired combined with homework breakdown was a recipe for disaster. But, all was good when she calmed down, and we both apologized for blowing up. Even better that she crawled into my arms and fell asleep. :)

Well, sad to say, the RT55's didn't work out. I think both tweeters are shot! They sound horrible - muffled and quiet sounding from the midrange drivers, but nothing from the tweeters. The crossovers seem fine (nothing obviously burned out on them), but the voice coils on the tweeters seem shot.

The only good news is the seller is willing to give me my money back. Was just really looking forward to these... :(

Still feel guilty? Or do you feel like choking something?

Skip - yeah, same tweeter, but smaller baffle in the RT35's. I did see a YouTube video showing how to 'pop' the entire tweeter out of the baffle, but I'm afraid to try it. If it were the RT800, RT800i RTi70, or RT55(i) baffle with the tweeter, then it should be a direct switch. But I think the RTi70 used a silk dome tweeter...

Would love to get them working, but there are a lot of minor dings and more than half of the tabs for the grilles are broken. I may just cut my losses and return them for my money back.

George - yeah, I certainly DID feel like choking something or someone! But the seller couldn't have been nicer and she's willing to give me my money back. I'm just out the two trips (40 miles RT each) to her house... Oh well. Guess I certainly do NOT feel guilty any longer!!
