With black Friday coming up and some stellar looking deals its got me thinking. Has the curve really proven itself? Pros and cons?

Proven itself how so ? My local Costco has a 65 inch Samsung Curved 4k set for 2500 bucks. That's a deal....but, with a curved set that side viewing angle is skewed a bit. Depends on your needs, to me it didn't add anything, only took away some of the side viewing angle. Looks cool though.

The general feedback I've come across seems to state that it is not all that its claimed to be. IMO, this along with 3D is just not as effective on smaller screens....seems better suited for larger Cinemascope 2.35:1 to 2.55:1 projection screens.

...but hey....TV manufactures, and electronic retailers have to eat too!

What Tony said...side viewing would suck. That's one of the reasons I like my Plasma I can see it from all angles.

I just wanted opinions really. A flat would be even cheaper and I do have some steep viewing angles in one or two spots. I'll check some more threads about led, plasma, and lcd. Thanks guys!

For home use I would do the flat screen. If youre thinking projector then curved screen is awesome.

I don't know about you guys but I'm holding off for the Home IMAX system! lol

May have to renovate my ENTIRE home for that though! So let's see, IMAX system, NEW ROOM, NEW RECEIVER/AMPS, NEW HT friendly Furniture, NEW room treatments, more SUBS and SPEAKERS, python cables everywhere...etc. Looks like a GIANT BOON for the ECONOMY to me! Throw out everything and start over? Or, become a GEAR-MOVER! You guys who keep things for a week or two and then sell it and move on, then do that again, then once more, and, and, and....? Also grows the economy. Don't you love how MUCH we PERSONIFY an abstract phenomenon and make it seem "human"? Aw, why even bother?

I never understood why tv's went curved because its utterly pointless. The only reason one really needs the curved screen is to offset the barrel effect. The barrel effect is caused by a panamorphic lens when they stretch a 16:9 aspect ratio to 2:35 wide screen because the middle of the lens is closer than the sides and gives it a bow curve instead of a straight line aspect on the top and bottom.

For a tv to incorporate this in a miniature display does nothing but look cool. If anything they should have a 2:35 curved screen as it would at least look a little better and have a more attactive veiwing angle with regular 16:9 hdtv content. What a load of crap as well as 4k aspect on a TV.

Many fools who think they are up to date go for these tv's just watch 1080 content and 1080i HDTV. You might get some lame show on netflix but thats it. I would rather put my money into a decent audio component and by a 4k set when the content actually comes out. By such a time the prices will be cheap and you can laugh at all the suckers with their smaller sets who paid 3 times more than you did and have outdated hdmi spec.
