My first chance to set down in front of a Win7 machine in a while so I could add comments on the 4312's.

I played with a couple pair for a while a few years back. Inverted a pair and stacked them as one experiment. This is possible as the face pots will fully attenuate when cranked all the way down. I've looked at a million pots since, but when the fog of the brain clears a bit, I think I remember the pots being wirewounds and maybe sealed. I do remember working them back and forth and clearing up a similar bit of intermittency.

Another thing unique about there design....the crossover leaves the woofer running full range! They just use it up to it's natural rolloff. It also seems to me like they had a ton of overlap with the mid and I tried turning down fully the mid driver which almost worked.

In the end, they are a rock and roll speaker. That's what they do well. Would not compare them at all though to CV's. Much more refined than the CV's I've heard and less of a "college party" speaker.

I did find a full schematic on them online somewhere.

A so called science type proudly says... "I do realize that I would fool myself all the time, about listening conclusions and many other observations, if I did listen before buying. That’s why I don’t, I bought all of my current gear based on technical parameters alone, such as specs and measurements."

More amazing Internet Science Pink Panther wisdom..."My DAC has since been upgraded from Mark Levinson to Topping."

The crossover design dpends on what model 4312 your talking about. The 10" woofer mk11 or the original 12"

they are straight up 4312. I notice there are many variations they came out with but all will have "4312 mkII" on the front beside the tone controls. these just say "model 4312 control monitor".

The CV's don't sound bad but I agree. the CV's actually used the woofer's full range too, it's hooked straight up without any of the capacitors connected. pretty cool. I think that makes speakers sound better when you have more of the music in the woofer. but I agree, they do seem like college party speakers lol
