Why don't you guys exchange personal emails or phone numbers and take your pi$$ing contest offline. Ridiculous.
You're absolutely right. I had another huge response typed up and decided not to keep it going. That's difficult for me because it's just not in my nature but this discussion has long since gone beyond benefiting anyone else here and has become beyond petty at this point.

I don't concede the debate (if you can call...whatever this is a debate) but I'm certainly not going to drag it out further here.

It isn't a pissing contest. It is having your experience dismissed as a one off affair because the other person didn't have a similar experience.
It is again having your experience dismissed after providing evidence of similar experiences from others.

I completely agree with Assimilated on the movie being a very good movie. I just don't appreciate it when someone discounts my opinion and then says, specifically that they aren't dismissing my opinion.

Anyway, I am done with the thread.
It wan't my intention to specifically dismiss your opinion, I was more trying to understand and then put some context in terms of the rarity of that experience since I wasn't seeing it shared by others and things got out of hand.

I'm particularly sensitive to posts where I think people overstate or exaggerate things because people do that so much, especially when those comments are declarative and likely to influence other the actions of others. Maybe I read too much into that, but that's how I interpreted that first comment and is what prompted my subsequent reply.

I'm also done here, at least with this discussion.

I should have just let the initial post go and instead we have a whole page of nonsense. I basically ruined my own thread, I'm an idiot...

Back to topic, the IMAX version was really, really good. The coworker I went with said it was too loud, I disagreed and stated that what reference level sounds/feels like. :)

The digital IMAX version I saw (not the 70mm) was actually very loud, I actually had to wear my earplugs and after the movie I felt like I had been pounded in the chest for three hours.

Just got back from seeing it. I thought overall it was a great movie. I had a couple issues with the story line and also the sound levels. It was probably a theatre specific issue, but in a number of cases the music drowned out the dialogue. In some cases, it was done on purpose, but in some cases I couldn't understand the dialogue when I should have been able to. I will watch it again when it comes out on Blu-Ray on my theatre downstairs so I can understand all the dialogue.

Overall, a great movie. Like Contact and The Fourth Kind, the ideas in the movie can be taken a few different ways. I have my own ideas about what was implied in the movie. Once I can understand all the dialogue, it may answer a few questions I have about the story. Again, it was probably just the theatre I saw it in that caused the audio imbalance problems, but did anyone else have a hard time understanding the dialogue in some spots?

Well there were scenes where the audio was pushed up and even covered some unimportant dialogue, but you already noticed that. I've seen it in two formats on two screens in two different theaters run by two different companies and I didn't notice any issue, other than the whole movie being presented exceptionally loud in the second viewing at the AMC 'digital' IMAX.

When I saw it on the "Megascreen" there were no issues with loudness. No trouble whatsoever understanding the dialogue.

I enjoyed the movie. I didn't see it on IMAX, just a regular screen with not so great audio, but I enjoyed it anyway.

I'd say 9.2/10. I think I had higher hopes going into it because of all the talk about how this is one of the best movies ever and it really makes you think, but I didn't think it was hard to follow and found some of the plot twist's to be predictable.

    I completely agree Cody,

Anyone who thinks this is the best movie ever made very likely has had limited exposure to film (see what I did there?). This is a great movie but it's not even in the discussion for best movie ever made, it's probably not even the best movie this director has made (Inception was arguably a better film).

This movie is also not the brain bender that some people make it out to be. Sure, it's a bit more thought provoking and intelligent than Die Hard and is on the higher end of the spectrum when judged against all film history, but it's not a mental exercise to watch this movie. I'd say the movie is more 'profound' than 'intellectual'.

Us sic-fi guys have been watching stuff like this for a long time though, albeit not as grand in scale, so the concepts in this movie aren't new to us. This movie wasn't directed toward us though, it was directed towards the general public and to that larger audience it may appear more intellectual than it actually is.

If you want a real headache then go watch Primer. It's a short movie, which is a good thing because you'll have to sit through it twice to fully get it.

    ^^^Ever seen Inland Empire?^^^

IMO, that one takes about 7 times watching it to understand enough to explain what you just watched. It is an outstanding movie and an absolute must watch.

I agree about Inland Empire, saw it in the theater and have it on DVD also. Same with Lynch's "Mulholland Drive," both excellent movies IMHO but take multiple viewings. Mulholland Drive is a very well done flick.
