Eventually I'll try and get a pic with the RT1ks, 2ks, 3ks, and SRT's all together!

Are there stand-alone SDA subs? I only have what's in the picture. I remember seeing an ad for the "Ultimate SRT" system, and it had two stand alone subs..but from what I've read they're just 2 more of the subs used on the front lower units.

  • Hello,
The two different versions of the SRTs involved the surround channels, they incorporated SDA technology similar to the front speakers. There will be two SRT controllers with that version.

I have a similar setup now too with the SRT system and twin RT5000s. After experimenting with the setup I found that the best way to hook up the RT3000 subs is to use the coaxial output from the SRT sub to one RT3000 sub and then use the coaxial output from the 1st RT3000 sub to the next one in series. That way the SRT control center controls all three subs via remote control. Then I use my SC-09TX AVR to power the satellites.

I also have a pair of twin PSW650 subs connected to the two LFE outputs on my AVR.

Popped-in the "Song Remains the Same" Blu-Ray, set to "HD Audio" mode, and it sounds freakin' phenominal!

Right now I don't have any surrounds or center speaker connected and am just in stereo mode but as soon as I get my new TV stand I have three CS1000p's and an SRT center to choose from for the center and plan to use 2 or 4 f/x1000s for the surrounds.

Another experiment I plan to try is to connect four RT3000ps to a second SRT control center and wire the satellites in quasi-SDA mode and see what they sound like.

Thanks! Cosmetically they're all nearly flawless. The 3k plate amps are bad on one full set and we just lost another on the other set. The SRT woofers are being repaired right now because of some lamination issues. The 3ks are going to be switched to external amps since the old plate amps are just so fragile and easily broken.

What are "lamination issues"? If you remember, last year I sent my SRT drivers to Polk to have the spiders repaired. I also re-capped the amps. They sound unbelievable now. Virtually "no limits" as Matthew Polk stated and if you are not careful they really do have the ability to cause permanent hearing damage.

BTW: I considered switching to external amps on my RT3000p's but just repaired two of plate amps for less than $100 and I think they will be good for another 20 years or so of abuse. I'm glad I kept them intact. My other two RT3000p's and twin PSW650's are still working perfectly 20 years later but if and when I have an issue with them I will repair them too. All of my Polks are in virtual mint condition cosmetically and I couldn't bring myself to bastardizing them.

One of the PSW650s and a CS1000p were still unbelievably NOS factory-sealed in the boxes until a couple months ago when I finally decided to open them. They both work perfectly 20 years later.

I would repair the original amps on the RT3000p's. It's not much risk because if for some reason they don't last of you aren't satisfied, you won't be out that much $ but the speakers are definitely worth a lot more restored to factory than they will be with external amps. Plus just like the SRTs, they sound great as-designed once you do the required relatively inexpensive maintenance.

Hey Gatecrasher, I finally scored an SRT control center!!! Man, I'm like a kid on Christmas morning!!! This very nice forum member contacted me and wasn't sure on what to do with it, or incorporate it in his system to control the subs. He text me pics and all the lights come on! So needless to say, I Immediately PayPal him! Now I'm enjoying the SRT's for the mains and the RT3K's for the side surrounds and the back surrounds!! The FX1000's are being used for the front highs. The SRT center is on top of the tv, while the CS1000 is on the bottom. I'm also using twin PSW1200's for the subs! The rest of the speakers are being utilized in different rooms of the house. Bedroom, office, garage when working on my drag car, etc!
The original owner that sold me the SRT's is still looking for the other control center, he's a good man, so I trust he'll find it. It will take time because he has a very large warehouse full of stuff, and he's in upstate NY. It's cold there and he's replacing the heater unit. I don't mind waiting for it! I also may have a lead on some more SRT's !!!
    I hope he comes through!!
    Frank.

Oh, Gate, I my have to send you a universal remote to program the codes for the control center.

Yeah Yeah the glue used to connect the spiders to the baskets had come undone. That's what I meant by lamination issues. Both top woofers. The lowers haven't had any problems.

How'd you rebuild the 3ks for that cheap? Do it yourself? I have had 5 total 3k amp failures, even after being repaired by 3rd parties.

can anybody give me the dimensions for all the pieces of the srt system. thanks
  • Hello,
The satellites (upper section of front speakers) are 27" high, 12" wide and 18 1/2" deep. The woofer sections are 31 1/2" high 12" wide and 23 1/4" deep. The center is 26 1/2" wide, 6" high and 17 1/2" deep.
There are two different surround speakers depending upon which version SRT is considered.

    Hello to you too villian!!!!
I finally got my hands on the control center, a million thanks to an awesome CP member & now someone I consider a friend, for selling it to me!!! It's in my hands now as I try to type, staring at it! Lol!. It's going to be connected to my second SRT set!! I scored a second set in Kentucky!! A HUGE THANK YOU to quickr1 for finding it for me!!!!! I already rented a car and I'm leaving this Friday for a road trip to pick up the SRT! It even has the control center!!!! That makes two control centers.... so far!! I'm so happy man, I can't sit still or sleep!

The original owner who sold me my first SRT is still searching for the control center! ( so that will make three total! ). I'll use the third control center to control the twin PSW1200's I have. This will be my seismic system! All my other speakers and spare parts, MW8500's, 4 RT3K's amps, MW7011's & SL6506 tweeters with the diffraction bezels, etc... will be carefully put away in the closet!
I have faith in him, He's a good man, he has two warehouses in upstate NY, that have to be searched. I told him no hurries, just keep me posted. We talk from time to time! He already found the original owners manual with the 3 ring binders ( I think ), and of course the hard covers.
When he finds the control center, he'll ship them both out to me!! Ever since I've joined this forum, I've fallen deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole! Can someone PLEASE throw me a rope in and pull me out! So I can fall into the other rabbit hole.... my drag car!!

Hello, back in the mid '90's, the prices for a simple 2-channel system, were $7k. Then they all varied up to the $22k for the top of the line Seismic system ( 2 center channels, 4 satellites, 6 subwoofers, and 3 SDA control centers). They were also "modular" sets, meaning you can keep adding more to your system, depending on how fat your wallet is/was!
But there are far more knowledgeable experts on here than me! I'm just small potatoes!
As far as used prices go, they ranged on low to high, depending on what people/collectors place a value on them! If you're lucky you can find them pretty inexpensive, but they are rare... and can quickly get pricy! The condition also plays a major role! Also, there were a limited numbered of sets produced!!
I hope this helped you out!
I almost forgot to mention about the very rare and elusive SDA surrounds! Which will jack up the price.

One thing to note about the remote. As expected, it controls all the control centers at once so when using the remote you can't just adjust one at a time without getting up and manually tweaking them. It would be nice if it could do them separately but I don't think Polk thought too many people would be using two control centers since the SDA rears came out later on seemingly as an afterthought. I know they never thought anyone would be using three of them!

BTW: I sold my drag car because I was going broke but still have my pro street project car (never-ending project) and my restored show car to drain my remaining funds as well as my pinball machine & minbike obsessions. Just bought another minibike this week.

2nd childhoods seem to be more expensive than the 1st ones.

I'm kind of glad I didn't have SRTs when I was young though. I would probably be deaf by now if I had.
