Oil change

Quick question re the new ride I have. Just turned 1000 miles, should I get the oil changed to get rid of the shavings the "may" be in the engine or is this an old wives tale? Was told by dealership they would charge me if I got the oil changed before there was only 20% oil life left. Life time free oil change policy.

    5. When you buy a new car, change your oil at 3,000 miles to remove metal particles from the engine break-in process. There might be a grain of truth to this, according to the experts at Blackstone. Oil samples from engines during the first 3,000 miles of driving show elevated "wear-in" metal levels, coming from the pistons and camshafts, says Ryan Stark, Blackstone's president. But he added, "To me, it doesn't make that much difference because if the filings are big enough to cause damage, they will be taken out by the oil filter."

    What kind of car?
    When I built my last engine for my Cobra I ran special break in oil for 500 miles. Then changed to plain dino oil. Then changed to Amsoil Full Synthetic at 3000 mile.
    Filter changed and cut open at each oil change. Plus a sample sent to Blackstone. All good.

    Our 2014 VW Passat doesn't require it's first oil change until 10,000 miles. I wouldn't imagine your Camaro would need a oil change until after 5,000 miles.
