Stumbled across this on eBay and thought it was a reasonably priced unit atm. I see it has a phono input. Anyone have any experience using it as a HT/2 channel set up?

I guess none of you have ever had this pre? It ended up selling for $255 + shipping. Deal? About right? Is Emotiva a decent company?

Take a look at the preamp shootout I did with an emo preamp and a parasound p5. I had good luck with their customer service and they took the preamp back on the 30 in home trial without any issues.

I havent heard the mmc1so I cannot comment on it.

Thanks for pointing that out. Was a long read but very informative. I have been thinking about a pre vs a Yamaha Aventage 1030. I figure if I can get what I want for around the same as one of those why not?

Only thing I've done is get it partially hooked up. HDMI pass is that when it's off and you watch tv anyway? Sound and all go from the input to the tv? Well that works if so..... Need to figure out a center channel amp and something for my rears. Hell I have to run wire for the rears first so that is no hurry right now. I'll be using the Hafler 500 with the SDA 3.1's for mains and the sub will be my PSW 150 I think is what it is. I was looking on eBay for an inexpensive Parasound amp sense I'm very happy with the one in the BR on the Monitor 10's.

You might try and see if you can snag a good used Parasound HCA- 1200 or HCA-1500 here in the CP for sale section. I bet those amps would make your SDA 3.1's sound better than that Hafler 500.

I've been looking around for a good used Parasound but haven't had much luck. I have an Adcom 555II that I got from a pawn shop but it doesn't sound right. I found a Adcom repair facility but its 3 hours away. Sucks when you live in a State that doesn't have much availability of these kind of things.

That looks pretty nice, but noticed it only has 2 hdmi inputs. I would need more than that for cable box, ps3, bluray player, etc. Is there a way to hook up more than two components via HDMi with a unit like this?

If I recall correctly, there are HDMI switch boxes you can buy that do like 2 to 1 or 4 to 1. Haven't looked into them for 4 or 5 years though. Seems like some worked better than others YMMV.

So far I like the pre. The 2 HDMI force me to send everything to my Sony tv then I put an optical from it to the pre. I probably don't know what a great system should sound like but I'm happy with it. Still looking for a rear channel amp. Being cheap doesn't help either. I need a different way to set it all up. Cannot wait to get my 3.1's as the mains again. Right now I'm using the RTA 12c's.

If you are running all your hdmi 's to your tv, you're not allowing ears all of the wonderful benefits of lossless audio. That optical cable running from the tv to the pre is only capable of lossy audio.

Yea I'm going to look at options. I still have to get another amp for the rear channel and get the speaker wire run and the speaker shelves made. In time I will get it all set up. I did however notice something the other day. I plugged up my LDP with the stereo s video and it would not play the video to the tv but I could hear the sound. I might have something set up wrong though. More research and playing is in order here.

SO I went looking and came across this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00264NZWS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Came in today so hopefully I'll get it set up tonight some time. If I understand this correct I should run the HDMI into it and then the pre then to the TV? Should the audio be on optical or stay with the HDMI? This is all new to me so any help understanding all this would be appreciated. Also, sense the 3.1's are down I've got the RTA 12c's as mains. They seem to be more trebly and don't have the base I remember the 3.1's having. Thoughts on that? Could it be the difference in Pre's? I may swap in my Monitor 12's and see what the difference is.

I finally got that hooked up. It switches between sources automatically or manually or with a remote. Only issue I have atm is getting sound and video from the old Pioneer LD player into the tv and the surround sound system. Maybe I'll get some time this weekend to do some more testing.
