HI all,
I have a question for Wood treatment. A family member gave this set of 4 patio wood chair. But they seem to need some care. Do I paint, stain or just clean them.
Cheers

Nice family member!
That would appear to be a teak chair, use some teak cleaner and a scrub brush and you'll be amazed how bright the wood will be. You'll want to do that no matter what method you decide to use.
From there, it's up to you, you can use teak oil to preserve the wood, but it requires a reclean/reapplication once or twice a year.
I've also used Helmsman Spar Urethane, in an effort at a more permanent finish, but honestly, they will still need to be cleaned once a year.
You can just also let them age to a nice grey like teak does. It's a great and versatile wood, (and it ain't cheap)!

Do not urethane.
More than likely Jesse will chime in, if he doesn't PM him and I'm sure he'll give great advise, he refurbs and repairs antiques. He's helped me on a couple home projects along with many others.
Along with any other outdoor wood projects they require maintenance.
They are worth saving, but if you don't want to maintain then restore and flip them.

I used teak patio furniture outside for years.
It is beautiful, but it requires maintenance -- as above, at least annual cleaning and treatment with teak oil.
To clean, I used a hand sprayer with a mixture of bleach to kill mold and mildew with house wash (M1, I think is the brand), followed by pressure washing.
Then treat with teak oil.
When I moved to New Hampshire, I finally moved the furniture inside to use so that I don't have the annual maintenance work.Post edited by Moose68Bash onFamily Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. Good advice from all. Bottom line, it doesn't matter what you put on them as long as they are outside they will require up keep.Political Correctness'.........defined

When I had teak on my boat I used bronze wool to clean followed by teal oil. There are several new products today but I no longer have teak on the boat. Here is a good link to check out:
