After Market Muffler

As you all know I have a brand new Camaro. Question is will a Magnaflow or Flowmaster muffler hurt the car and or void the warranty? Should I just forget the whole idea instead?

i don't think just a cat back exhaust would void the warranty. you should check out camaro5.com i bet that you would find the answer there. did you get a v6 or v8 camaro?

Is this for sound or power?

If you're after power, don't waste money on a muffler. To see any real gains, you'll want to start at the headers and work your way back.

A muffler alone should have zero impact on the warranty, but I would contact chevy to make certain.
  • If this is for sound, get a V-8. Otherwise stock is the way to go. :D

He already has the car so a V-8 isn't an option. The mufflers you mentioned won't hurt the car, but it does give the dealer a leg up to refuse any warranty work associated with it. Your best bet is as along as the warranty is in place, keep it stock. A muffler isn't going to change any performance worthy of a mention anyway and a 6 that only sounds like an 8 is kinda lame in my book.

Magnaflow. I had a Cadillac CTS with the same 3.6L engine and did custom Magnaflow (x2) and an X pipe. The Xpipe removed the drone (which is weird) and made it sound amazing outside.

Magnaflow; throaty and deep - not raspy at all. Catback will not void the warranty. In fact it is illegal for them to deny warranty claims. This is a good resource to read up on and learn - Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

It will void the warranty on anything behind the cat, but cannot void anything on the rest of the car unless it a) actually caused the warranty issue and b) they can prove it.

Right; the pipes, new muffler and hangers wont be covered by the vehicles bumper to bumper warranty obviously. But everything else is still covered.

If you want it to sound like a zipperhead car,go for it.
  • I would leave it alone. Changing the exhaust will only highlight the fact that the car is a v6. It's like your dating Klohe Kardashian, which is all well and good, nothing wrong with that, but trying to make her look more like Kim will only show that you think of her as being inadequate. As hard as Klohe may try she'll never be a Kim or even a Kourtney.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant
