The sub has the 2 refular "line in" rca inputs but has 3rd LFE unfiltered input.... should I be using the unfiltered?

And does connecting to the lfe unfiltered cancel out th x-over settings set in receiver?

Are you using the sub with an AVR receiver, or is this for a 2-channel preamp connection?
H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music. -

Use the LFE input on the sub from the subwoofer output from the AVR.
Then set the bass xover frequency on the AVR to 80Hz to start with and experiment from there to what sounds 'best' to you.
