You think music biz is all glamour? King Crimson dressing room(s) photos

Here's some good photos of the King Crimson show a few weeks back in Madison, Wi. Shows some pretty good backstage photos of the dressing room. Not so glamorous.... Also some cool crowd shots from the stage. I'm there but I can't figure out which one is me.

  • Limited by venue age and size, but even at a large venue, they are at the mercy of what the venue built for dressing rooms. I was a guest backstage last year for a Deftones/Avenged Sevenfold concert in the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Each band had there own rooms, but they were nothing more than industrial equipment rooms with a few pieces of furniture thrown in. The food and bar services were the only nicety at all.

I think any glamour would be reserved for down time at high end hotel suites in the big cities.

My oldest son is in the business, and he's brought me backstage. The level of green room comfort/luxury varies greatly from venue to venue. The workshop used as a dressing room in the link was particularly crappy, but they are seldom much more than utilitarian. So long as there are no brown M&Ms, no one really cares.

Separately, I can't believe I missed Crimson in NYC last month!

Apparently, King Crimson's and Maria Carey's hospitality riders are two VERY different documents!

Small venue, my favorite kind to see a band. How were the acoustics/sound?

Sound quality was excellent. I've seen a lot of bands in that venue over the years and the sound quality seems to have a lot to do with the band. That seems elemental of course, but you'd think it would be rather consistent. Sometimes, the sound quality improves dramatically within several songs. Good sound guys I guess. This show was excellent from the get-go. Robert Fripp attracts good people.
